  1. I think things just have been a little unusual since Bob. We had Sandy that was as bad as any hurricane that came ashore on Long Island, even though it did not make landfall here. We have had to tropical systems also in Irene and Isaias. So in the past 30 years we had one major storm and 2 tropical systems. Between 1962 until Bob there was only Gloria as the major storm and Belle as less but still a Cat 1. Of course we always have those close calls or remnants that bring heavy rains or beach erosion.
  2. I think we will find going forward that we may get further into the alphabet before we have our first hurricane. The reason is because we name sub tropical systems and very weak systems. Springtime is when storms like this seem to be named and you have to wait for the water temperatures to warm up properly to support a real hurricane.
  3. Temperatures are getting warmer than I thought out here on the Island. Many temps now in the upper 80s
  4. I understand bluewave, there are just 2 ways at looking at those stats and to me they are both correct in their own way. For example, lets say you are in a car race with 5 cars, 4 tie for first and then there is the last car. Well you could say the last car was 2nd and if you went by time that is correct. However the actual finishing spot is 5th or last. Now Islip certainly did have the 12th highest temperature this summer but that can be misleading in that you might think it to be the 12th warmest summer ever. Not so, ties now count and Islip had the 17th warmest summer because 16 other years were warmer. That is all I am saying.
  5. The one thing that, as you probably know, bothers me about these stats is the numbers. Yes Islip is the 12th warmest summer in temperature but it is actually the 17th warmest summer.
  6. After this heat wave, looks like the cooler drier air may come in as kind of a whimper. Some thunderstorm activity but not widespread and severe as you might expect from breaking a heat wave.
  7. Maybe others were having the same problem and that is why no response. Sorry about that, I am not a tech wizard so I'm not sure how to fix it. For some reason it opens for me so I thought all could see it. The picture you show is a good airial shot.
  8. Most of the stations near me on the Davis site, got up to about 94 degrees.
  9. Latest temps I see from around the area are. Newark and LaGuardia the highest at 96 and 95. Farmingdale and Sussex Airport and Kennedy 90 Trenton and White Plains 91 Central Park 92
  10. Thanks for responding Bluewave. I posted the picture because it is the most recent picture I have seen. (January 2020) I agree that it is a winter picture which is unfortunate because it is the summer foliage that is the problem. What did you mean "it won't open".
  11. Your area up to around Newark and slightly west, including parts of the boroughs are certainly the places with the hottest summer temps in our area.
  12. Channel 7 just had the first African American that will be leading the USDA Forest Service in the United States and the big conversation was the fires out west. I was so glad to here him emphasize forest management as something that has to happen out there. He also said there have been some 4000 fires and most are quickly taken care of by the fire fighters but there are a few like the Dixie fire that get out of hand.
  13. I posted this picture of the Central Park weather station from January of 2020. So it is fairly recent. There has been a lot of talk about the growth around where the station is located. I am just a little surprised that nobody commented on the picture. I guess it is pretty much what people expected.
  14. Meanwhile no matter what our summer temps have been, it certainly is hot today. 92.2 here today.
  15. Funny you say that because the same thing here yesterday. There was plenty of blue sky and sun when the lightning was flashing and the rain falling. There was one long ominous looking cloud and some darker clouds to the north. Almost reminded me what happens in Florida sometimes.
  16. This is the most up to date picture I have found. Not so bad in the winter, would like to see what it looks like in the summer.
  17. https://goo.gl/maps/R1GELAXm2WmeWDEBA Found the above picture of the Central Park weather station taken in January of 2020
  18. That storm just brushed my area but the thunder and lightning was intense. The cloud formation was also very impressive.
  19. Meanwhile I don't think there were any severe warnings issued for this storm.
  20. I'm getting the outer edge of a good thunder and lightning storm.
  21. Once we make it thru this heat, it looks like we are back to more normal conditions starting Sunday.
