    Cedar Rapids' record high on the 15th is 55º and the all-time December record is 69º. The latest GFS and Euro predict 70º.

    All models tonight are south with the Friday system. I don't expect it to sag too much farther south, but I may at least see the first accumulation of the season.

    It's looking increasingly good for southern MN through the UP this weekend. There is good model agreement. I don't mind missing the snow, but models also show much of the rain missing southeast as well. The Euro looks thunderstormy for folks in the Ohio Valley and even up to Michigan.

    We outperformed the forecast and hit 56º this afternoon. Sioux City blew by their forecast and old record, hitting 70º. We may hit 50+ every day through Friday, with 60º possible Thursday. I hope we get cold and snow sometime in December, but this weather is pretty nice.

    I picked up a bit of freezing rain yesterday morning, but it quickly melted and dried up as we surged well into the 50s. My November precip should finish at 0.89", with no snow.

    This month has been boring, but I don't mind at all. It makes it easy to finish up leaf collection (neighbor's big oak tree just recently dumped its leaves) and other yard work. I want Mother Nature to save up the real cold and snow and unleash it in December.

    It was a good weekend to finish up yard work. The neighbor's oak tree dumped a bunch more leaves Fri/Sat, so I raked them and bagged them. I use most to protect some plants and then mulch up the rest for the compost. I mowed for the last time Saturday. I was really just trying to run out the little bit of gas in the tank, but it actually made a difference so the lawn has still been growing over the last couple weeks.

    It was the coldest morning of the season here as well. It got down to 16º in my yard and 14º at the airport.

    I've never measured 12" from one storm. I think the max here would be 16" if the planets align just right.

    We've had off/on snow showers since early this morning, but nothing to get excited about. It's too warm for any accumulation.

    About 26º in my yard this morning, 21º at the airport. It's possible the airport could drop below 20º tonight as models have been suggesting Wed morning will be the coldest.

    The Cedar Rapids airport dropped to 25º. Here in town it was around 28º. The next few nights should be lower. I'm still protecting a few flower pots in the garage because we have another warm period beginning this weekend.

    I have 0.81" in my gauge after 24 straight hours of light rain. My October total is 6.96".

    I was also thinking it sounds like a winter storm. The wind has been howling. My rain total is 1.16" so far, should end up with at least 1.5". Iowa City has received over 2" so far.

    This entire area should end up with 1-2" of rain from this system. Then, another big system mid to late week could potentially drop much more rain as a strong trough first pulls up Pacific topical moisture and then cuts off and spins for a couple days. This is what the GFS is showing.

    Heavy frost and 30º here this morning. The airport made it to 29º. Waterloo dropped to 26º and Mason City 23º.

    It's only 42º in Cedar Rapids at 4pm.

    We have our first bit of frost of the season this morning with a temp in the mid 30s. Tonight we should flirt with 32º. The Cedar Rapids airport, always a cold spot, has fallen to 31º at 8am.

    A series of heavy downpours here this morning put another 0.91" in my gauge. It has been a great last week, with three systems all dumping near the top of the model qpf range. My total over the last week is a whopping 4.13". That'll put a nice dent in the drought. This time, the weak sun and much cooler weather will allow the soil to remain moist.

    A nice band of rain popped over Cedar Rapids late this evening. My final total is 2.19".

    My 2-day rain total is 1.73". I'm pretty happy with that. We have been stuck in the mid 50s all day.
