December 5-6, 2020 Storm Observations and Nowcast

My future home up there one day. I love that part of Maine. -
Currently it looks like the snow will begin tomorrow morning around the morning commute. This will be a NW flow snow again which is fine for this time of the year. I think this event will last about 24 hours. The totals the models are spitting out look bleak but ill say lower elevations 1-3 and in the favored spots 3-6. Im impressed with the NAM currently and will see if it continues to look impressive through the day.
-
The GFS has been impressive for the past year with modeling the mid range and storms.
-
32 degrees with light snow.
-
Nice. Windy and 36 here. No snow yet.
-
Just lost another degree. The slow decent has started.
-
So far I have dropped to 42 degrees so far. Whats everyones obs currently?
-
Yeah really anything tonight is a bonus I think. Next week looks very interesting. Yes this season so far is much better than this time last year. Still things can go to pot in a hurry. We should all enjoy this currently.

The central and southern mountains will benifit from this event nicely especially above 3500 feet.

Swain-Haywood-Graham- 407 PM EST Fri Dec 4 2020 This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for the southern mountains of western North Carolina. .DAY ONE...Tonight. Precipitation will change over from rain to snow showers from the higher elevations down toward the mountain valleys overnight before ending later in the morning. Light accumulations up to 1 to 2 inches will be possible, especially at the higher elevations in the Great Smoky mountains.
-
The NAM is much more gracious for tonights little event after midnight. As above both the NAM and GFS look much better for the event on the 7th.
-
Yep still a decent hit. Snow is snow at this point. 1 to 10 inches we should be happy after last years crap show.
-
Not at this time. The cold air will be predominantly in our area and to the north. Even we are seeing difficult temps around here for snow on the front side of these systems.
-
Yeah the NAM keeps things interesting after midnight tonight then for the other system next week. Definitely a lot going on.
-
Yeah Mitchell is king in Synoptic setups. NW flow they do decent. Good stuff fellas.
-
Yeah I don't think the mountain does that great in upslope snows.
-
Had another low of 14 this morning. Man im in a prime spot for radiational cooling. Yep looks like we may have multiple chances to see some flakes.
-
Yep had a low of 13 degrees here. I think that is about as cold as we saw all of last year.
-
Definitely glad to see you posting back again.
-
Yeah no kidding.
-
Going to be a cold one tonight. Already down to 16 degrees.
-
Yep a great way to start the season. Ended up with 4 inches. It was a great start to the season.
