Textbook Allentown split going on right now. Nice looking storms to the north and south and the best we can hope for is a dying convective shower. Really would have been nice to get some more rain.
The hope is that these storms tonight lay an outflow boundary across the region so storms tomorrow can latch onto it and really go crazy. If it happens I think it’s around I-95 or the turnpike.
Line weakened right before it got here. Lots of rain but virtually no wind. I’m okay with it - we don’t need another round of power outages. Let the utility workers rest a little.
The problem with KDOX is while it covers Philly well enough, it’s a little far from the Lehigh Valley. Same with BGM and CCX. DIX is the only radar that’s close enough to my place in Allentown. Of course it would really help if we filled the I-81 radar gap too.
I remember that heat wave. I hope I never have to feel heat like that again. The temperature - not heat index, but actual air temperature - got to 104 or 105 at its hottest. And I was living without AC at the time in a bedroom that faced west. Not fun at all.
Not bad at all today. High around 90 with dews in the mid-upper 60s. It’s actually pretty comfortable in the shade.
Tomorrow and Saturday, and possibly Sunday too, look like some pretty brutal days before we get some relief on Monday.
This week is hot but not unbearably hot like it is in some parts of New England. We see this type of heat for at least a week or two every year. In New England, though, they’re smashing all time record highs.
Models have been trending away from the week of extreme heat around here and giving New England the brutally hot temps instead. It’ll still be hot but nothing really crazy. And the humidity looks to be only mildly uncomfortable rather than oppressive.
Slept through the storms somehow. Worst of it missed to my north by about 2-3 miles. Looks like much of the northwest side of Allentown is without power. Lots of photos on social media of trees down, some of them big ones.
