E PA/NJ/DE Summer 2025 Obs/Discussion

Feels like fall outside today. I could get used to this…and we will be getting used to it in the next 2 weeks. -

Drought guy could make a return pretty soon. Looks like after today, high pressure will dominate our pattern for the next 2 weeks with not many chances of rain. Dews in the 40s and 50s next week should be nice though. -

Tons of close CGs with this storm. Not severe otherwise but it’s bringing quite the downpour. -

The Perseid meteor shower is out tonight and there are great viewing conditions for it! I went out into my backyard and saw 3 in 10 minutes. It’s probably even better in more rural areas with darker skies. -

Mother nature is making up for all those years of storms messing up Musikfest. It’s very possible that the entire 10-day festival will be rain-free this year, aside from “preview night” this past Thursday. -

The cold front has arrived in Allentown. 69/63F with a nice north breeze. Feels amazing! -

Looks like a legit supercell over Reading right now. It has that shape on reflectivity and there’s some decent rotation with it. -

Feeling lucky here with temps staying in the low-mid 80s in Allentown. Looks like the cutoff between heat and humidity and more comfortable weather is just south of the Lehigh/Northampton and Bucks/Montgomery lines. The storms should drop it down to the 70s which is hopefully where they’ll stay. -

Bunch of storms popping up across central and eastern PA. A few hours earlier than modeled. Hopefully this keeps temperatures down today. -

Tomorrow night but yes. The mesos generally agree that there will be a 3-6" bullseye somewhere between Philly and NYC with everyone else getting 1-2". -

If you believe the 12z NAM and a few other hi-res models, some places may not get out of the 60s on Friday. It just makes today’s heat and humidity feel so much worse knowing a long stretch of comfortable weather is right around the corner. -

That humidity was just brutal yesterday. Looks like KABE got to a peak dew point of 77 which is fairly rare for this area. Good thing it wasn’t terribly hot or else it would have been completely miserable out there. Really looking forward to the arrival of the cold front on Thursday night…hopefully we get a good day or two of storms before that. -

Little MCS approaching the region. Looks like heavy rain with some embedded thunder. While we’re not in a drought, I’ll take whatever rain we can get because the pattern looks to turn pretty dry for at least a week starting on Thursday. -

Really nice storm just went through my place west of Allentown. Tons of lightning, gusty winds but not quite severe. A few power outages around Lehigh County, fortunately I still have power. New line starting to form behind this one? Some strengthening storms out near Williamsport. -

Radar estimates about 1 1/2” of rain at my place. 5 miles SE there’s been 5-6” of rain with water rescues taking place on route 309. I believe part of the route is still closed since there’s still standing water there. -

Last time I can remember a pattern like this was summer 2018. We had a string of lots of very humid days like this with non-severe, but drenching showers and storms. Although they did add a slight risk for today so we might get some pretty strong storms with the flood threat. -

Worst possible timing for this line of storms. Union vs. NY Red Bulls was supposed to start at 7 and they delayed kickoff 10 minutes before. Now it’s uncertain if they’ll even play the game tonight. Glad I didn’t buy tickets. -

That storm near Pottstown right now looks pretty crazy. Unfortunately here in Allentown it looks like we’ll just get some heavy rain and a few rumbles of thunder. -

Radar looks juicy AF over central PA. Favorable environment out ahead of everything too. Could be a fun late afternoon/evening. -

Winds are more WNW than NW as originally anticipated today which is leading to some training storms in the Lehigh Valley, rather than the quick ones we were supposed to get. As if we needed anymore rain. -

Chased the tornado warning earlier, saw some gusty winds and close lightning. Still not a bad storm. I’m glad it happened now and not this Friday-Saturday. -

Without a doubt the craziest lightning storm in years around here!!! Lightning just struck less than 1/4 mile from me and it’s just a constant barrage of CGs. This is just ridiculous! -

Insane amount of CGs with this storm. Most are buried in the rain but some are peeking out and putting on a hell of a show. -

Constant lightning and a steady rumble to the SW. Been awhile since we’ve had a good nighttime show like this. -

Little bit of rain and thunder here. Nothing too crazy.
