  1. I had one of my favorite mornings at Stratton of all time yesterday. I made sure to be there for first chair and had the place to myself until about 10 when everyone started showing up after New Years party’s. The 2” of sleet and ice had filled in gaps and 6” of snow over the following two days made for deceptively great conditions. Obviously it wasn’t enough to call it epic as it gets beat hard by afternoon. But for that golden 1.5 hours it was truly special.
  2. It’s exploded already more then likely, we just haven’t seen it yet. For everyone complaining about the lack of snow you do not have to go far to get to deep winter. I just saw every possible winter weather precip type over a three day period in Vermont. 1/4” ice storm, 2” of sleet including a sleet thunderstorm with 6 bolts. 4” of snow, a light snow break that lasted 24 hours and added another inch. And finally a snow squall that dropped 2” in 20 minutes.
  3. Pretty brutal conditions at Stratton today with limited terrain and shave ice on ice. Monster crowds and lots of newbs made for allot of crashes. They actually stoped spinning the upper mountain lifts early when it got too ridiculous. Tomorrow will be interesting to say the least.
  4. It’s the depreciation. The second you drive off the lot it’s like throwing dozens of hundred dollar bills out the window
  5. Yep, I’m putting in a few years building my resume here and then the plan is to move to a college in New England and run their grounds department and snow removal. Tons of schools up there that need a head of grounds. I’m so over New York City, I’d rather drive to work With no traffic from my 40 acre house.
  6. Your going to have to go 2 hours north of the city for a nice snow storm with this one, 80s style. I do not think anyone wants a crippling ice storm or mid 30s and heavy rain that we going to see south of there.
  7. I know, I was just messing with you. As long as your fiancé understands your obsession. I would at least move to the colder suburbs. You get so much more for your money too!
  8. He’s not going to budge. Why he would decide to marry a girl that hates cold and snow is beyond me. I just got out of a 15 year relationship with a cold and snow hater and now am with a lover. We have plans of moving to New England eventually and it’s a beautiful thing!
  9. Main thread for tomorrow is becoming unreadable. Too many posters that need to sit back and read more and post less.
  10. Great conditions today at Stratton with that mid winter vibe. The 20” earlier in the week and 4” yesterday have the place cruising. Even with the hit this week there will still be plenty of snow left
  11. My buddy’s said Stratton was ruff in the afternoon. Ice everywhere, glad I wasn’t there!
  12. Days one and two this past weekend at Killington. Natural snow was very limited with only a few inches. Being killington there was plenty of man made snow on the trails that were open. The problem was it was packed and by the afternoon the bottle necks were so pushed off that it became a dangerous Ice to moguls mine field. I saw multiple serious injury’s. There were way too many beginners out for those types of conditions and no easy terrain open. I took it easy after my double injury winter last year (broken collar bone followed by shattered wrist).
  13. Interesting, I had 6” in Wantagh. I wonder if it was your proximity to the sound.
  14. Yup! Perfect timing for this first cold shot. It’s not last November but it’s something
  15. Today cannot be good for early season snow making. Anything made already is getting rocked. About as good of a melt scenario as you can get!
  16. Nothing at all in wantagh, car coverer in Long Beach. Interesting snow patterns with that one. Nothing on the north shore hills near the warm sound but a strip of 2” around the LIE
  17. That’s an incredible micro climate spot. I drive past you almost ever weekend over the winter. I always look forward to the climb to see snow differences with elevation!
  18. Ready to do some exploring this winter with the full icon pass. We really need a full scale pattern change to avoid cutters and lots of ice.
  19. Going with a full Icon this year. Based at Stratton as that’s where my house share is. My friends in the house are all on the ski patrol so they aren’t leaving Stratton ever. The good thing for me this winter is I’ll be able to get out and explore. Planning on doing killington a bunch and a late season sugarloaf expedition. That mountain is big on my list of places to ride. I’m also doing my first out west trip to aspen for spring fling in April. Heres to hoping we have an ice free winter!!!
  20. Gloria is my first weather memory. Watching LIPA remove the top of the big Norway maple in front of my house after it split and took down the power lines. I would have loved to have been a little older for that one. Probably the strongest winds during my life time with a brief period of 90mph gusts with what was most likely a sting jet caused be extra tropical transition.
  21. NYC bans anyone from entering the water. Including surfers. Canceling a long run body surf competition Saturday during premium conditions. Talk about over reactionary
  22. The real challenge is for cheaper and more effective solar cells. I saw something on solar cells that were super thin like film and this flexible. They could hypothetically be wrapped around pretty much any object. That’s the holy grail of solar technology.
  23. Very true, that’s not cement by any stretch as it would have stayed open. Looking forward to a less injury filled 2019/20!
  24. Not a great track for a high end landfall. Trajectory has too much land interaction before landfall. Good for what I assume are poor people living in substandard housing. All of the money in India is in the major city’s with the rest of the country still relatively poor.
  25. Nice to see some positivity. I agree, while it may not be a blockbuster KU I think we get at least one solid warning event sometime between 2/15-3/15
