uh... Temp has been steady at 42-43°F since about noon, and is now starting to trend downward: That's a 2° difference from current forecast. Wind looks like it has also shifted from southerly to NE. This doesn't seem to jive with us hitting near a forecasted high of 52° by midnight. Keeping an eye on this.

Radarscope is actually tracking a cell heading towards Allentown. We're up to .7" here, and there is still plenty of moisture to come, look at the precip shield on radar! Man, if we were only 10-15°F cooler...

BTW, sometimes the threads created in the MA forum crack me up. "Feb 4 2022 Stupid Ice Threat" indeed. The sitch in N. Reading, currently:

I dunno, I've seen at least three large flocks at altitude trucking north since around Christmas. It struck me as weird, but whatever triggers their return must have happened. I'm thinking it has to be temperature down south wherever they winter over. Global weirding and all that.

There are still guardrails here and there with giant dents in them from all the trees that fell during that storm. That was wild.

Took a sick day today. Work can get along just fine without me for a day, and driving out there is nasty right now. Got 1/3 the way in and tapped out; apparently, reflective road markings haven't been in the budget for a while up here. Greasy roads + invisible lane markings + rain and heavy fog + reckless drivers + semis on the turnpike = yeah that's a big fat NOPE from me.

Well dang. I guess it really is time to fire up the genny and make sure we're fueled up just in case. This looks like it could either be nothing, or it could be very serious. At least it's an a weekend where none of us have to especially be anywhere else. (I'm off Friday)

January 28th/29th Event Obs - From KU to FU?

Looks like about 1.5" here. Annoyingly, it's just enough to warrant the snow shovel--I tried blowing it off the driveway with a leaf blower but it wouldn't shift the bulk of it. -

Only barely snowing out, we have maybe a dusting if I'm honest. Which was completely expected. What I do find interesting is just how alight out it is outside. I can see the entirety of my back yard, as if it were a clear sky under a full moon. That's odd because the moon is a waning crescent right now; must be all the suburban lighting being diffused and refracted by the fine snow falling here atm. I gotta say, I'm usually depressed when there's a big snow event and we end up missing out on the totals, but for whatever reason, I'm really enjoying this. Perhaps it's because it's the middle of meteo winter and there's still plenty of oppo to cash in for my region, or perhaps it just feels more normal to have legit cold weather and frozen precip rather than marginal temps and slop. -

Very light snow here in reading, maybe 3/16". Oh, and they finally put us under an advisory until 3pm tomorrow, expecting 1-4". -

You know what? I'm getting fringed, but it's still snowing and the ground's gonna be covered. It's a little something for everyone here. Forecast calls for maybe 1.5", we'll see. -

Does that hint at a possible retrograde? Man, this one's coming down to the wire! -

Kinda like your name. Higher winds cancel out dendritic growth. -

Miss being your neighbor to the north, Di. Well, I guess I still am, just much farther now lol. I dunno, NAM has upwards of 15-25 knot winds Saturday night peaking around 8pm if I'm reading it right, while the GFS tops out at 15 knots. So pretty gusty for sure, but nothing super spectacular. -

That's totally not the point. We're all junkies for digital snow, and the anticipation for such an event is like buying a lotto ticket. Most likely not a winner, but could be... -

Mind if I join? We can grill some brats and have one or six adult beverages. -

LOL@ Scrapple model. See? This-- This right here is why we are our own sub-forum. Anywho... It seems I'll be watching from the sidelines tomorrow, which is actually a good thing for me since I plan on spending my day off test driving some new cars. Good luck everyone else though, you all deserve it! -

Man, it was COLD working outside today. Not the coldest day out for sure, but still. Tomorrow should be a bit better. Currently 16°F with zero breeze; this is proper winter cold for this time of year and I love it. Now all we need is a nice, little snow event to round things off. Still 48 hours-ish to go on this one, maybe it'll tick west enough to at least freshen up the yard, which still has roughly 75% coverage (my front yard is in shadow nearly all day).

Me too. First major snowstorm in my new house and I was lucky enough to WFH all last Feb, so I just got to sit in my home office and stare out the window as it built up in my back yard. I really hope for a repeat this year so that my new dog can experience it for the first time.

You mean the dry-slot machine?

If it helps, I have been a terrible steward of my small gas engines (generator, mower, edger, snowblower!). I've not fired mine up since last February. Maybe I'll go tune up all the other things and leave the blower for Saturday morning if anything falls.
