I think there's room for improvement there, then. Decades ago when I worked on a naval air station, a severe thunderstorm warning was treated very differently from an extreme wind event. While the two may share some similarities, they were not equal in terms of protocol. These days I'm just some Joe Schmoe behind a keyboard with a worried wife from SoCal and a mom who wants to know if she needs to put the horses in because of lightning. When something doesn't make sense to me, I complain about it on the internet. We do this for fun and I don't envy the job our mets actually have to perform. I guess I'll just take everything I learned here tonight and apply that going forward. Thanks for your service and your replies. Down to 37°F and I'm hearing pingers on the windows. An interesting day and night all around, regardless.

Doesn't the NWS have a warning specifically for extreme winds? Look, I realize this is getting semantical. A warning is a warning and as long as it serves to warn the public to a hazardous condition, I get it. I just don't think we should have been warned for thunderstorms when there weren't any. My weather radio went off, twice. Once before, and once after, telling me to seek shelter in an innermost room in my house because of severe thunderstorms. This wasn't that.

It certainly was entertaining for about 5 minutes. Granted, we have a pretty robust electrical grid up where I live. However; definitely not worthy of a "Severe Thunderstorm Warning!!! Go to the inner most room in your house and take cover now!" alert. Broadcasting the wrong message, even with the right intent, does not inspire confidence. That's what made me wonder if it was AI driven or not.

Interesting. Thunderstorms means convective, while convective does not always mean thunderstorms... I get why they have to word it that way at least because we're not exactly "general public" in here lol. Well it was an entertaining couple of minutes while it swept through at least. Power flickered but is still on.

Why am I being warned (weather radio and texts) for severe thunderstorms when there is literally no lightning? It's a squall line. Warn for that, if anything. It's been a weird weather day with the warnings. Are they all relying on AI too much or something? It's giving my mother fits.

Yup, NWS just scaled us back to 6" (though I'm not sure if that's cumulative or what they think is what's still to come). It was still a fun storm to track, especially when it seemingly sprang out of the blue just a few days ago.

Lol plows keep doing donuts and laying salt in my cul de sac but there's been literally nothing there for hours. I think I just watched the fifth pass tonight. Compared to the January ice sheet storm, when we had one, maybe two passes all night. What are they even doing??

~3" on my back deck, a little bit of fine snow and 29.4°F. Kinda waiting to see if the winds will pick up, it's dead calm here. Local plows are having a nice, easy night, plowing what little slush there is.

It was a bit breezy earlier, and I am wondering if the winds will kick up later tonight since everything seems to be more tucked in towards the coast. NWS still seems to think we're getting upwards of 10" as of the 11pm update... so we shall see, I guess. Streets are plowed, salted and wet. Mine were still mostly under a glacier until as late as yesterday. I probably could have pulled them up through what was left of the old snow, but had other priorities yesterday and today, so they yet remain. I've got 4 x 50' strands wound around all the shrubbery in my front yard still. (They haven't been on since mid-January though.)

30.2°F and moderate little flakes. 1.5" measured on the back deck.

Temp finally at 32°F. Driveway finally caved, and the cul de sac in front of my house is starting to fill in.About a half inch of fluffy, shaggy snow on my back deck.

32.5°F, which is about 5 degrees less than was forecast for this hour, so that's a good step. All snow, medium rates, small flakes. Grass is coated, not sticking to untreated, paved surfaces yet. Slightly breezy.

33.8°F temps crashing now from our high of 37. All snow, nothing sticking yet.

35.4°F temps falling again after a high of 37. Still slight drizzle, some frozen precip starting to mix in again.

Back up to 37°F with slight drizzle. Calm at the surface, but the clouds are starting to race across the sky.
