  1. There is a huge problem with salt contamination of ground water and drinking wells. This is a growing problem with no easy solution. Sand does very little (especially without salt added to it) as traffic will kick it out of the wheel paths very quickly. Research has shown that after 30-40 vehicles going over sand going at 35-40 mph will kick the sand out of the wheel paths. Then in the spring there are 100's of thousands of tons of sand that have swept up and properly disposed.
  2. Now that I have moved back to NW CT after spending 20+ years in Ellington, I can appreciate what you are saying with the benefits of coastal storms by being 35-40 miles east. Growing up here in NW CT, we seemed to have more storms where p-type issues in SE CT was more common and those were the ones were we would clean up in NW CT. My appreciation for the small weather variations in a small state has grown over the years having grown up in the snow capital of CT, then living on the eastern edge of death valley and then moving back to the hills.
  3. 5 inches out on the snow stake this morning - a positive win for a change.
  4. Looks like our few remaining oak leaves in trees will live to annoy another day. Virtually no wind at all. Lightning is really violet colored.
  5. Rumbling and power flicking. No wind to speak of - just starting pouring.
  6. Drizzly/light rain virtually all day. 0.12 inches on the day. So much for working outside today on a cloudy comfortable day.
  7. Just under 1.5 inches here. Temporarily letting up now.
  8. 18z euro also gets a little feisty with the wind gusts Thursday AM. Probably won't come to fruition, but it could be more interesting than Henri was here.
  9. Condolences to you and your family. These days really suck.
  10. As an indication of how cloudy it has been, we are just barely in the surplus on our solar for July.
  11. Just picked up a quick 0.31 inches of rain. The last couple of summers, that would have been significant - this summer, not so much.
  12. Thundering and pouring once more. Everything needed a good drink as it has been about 8 hours since the last rain.
  13. Pretty wild for a couple of minutes here. No visible damage but it would not have taken much more to start snapping stuff. Power flicking.
  14. It is pouring out here in Litchfield county. We had missed out on the heavier rains of the last couple of days.
  15. James will be missed - his enthusiasm was off the chart! He certainly loved his Ocean Effect Snow. I never met him, but it did not take long to learn that he was an eternal optimist whenever there was a storm in the western half of the Atlantic.
  16. Got Moderna #2 yesterday am. Wasn't too bad when I went to bed - actually felt like the side effects may have peaked and were decreasing and I was cautiously optimistic.... I was sadly disappointed at 1:30 this morning - ugly couple of hours and have been slowly improving since. Wasn't really able to function when I got out of bed. I'm still a little foggy and sore from the aches and chills from last night. I'm guessing it will be a another day or two until I'm back to 100%, but I'm excited to have it over with! My wife got both shots and not a single side effect.
  17. As quick as it came - it is gone. Now I get to find the arc fault circuits in the house that tripped in the power blink. Kind of becomes a bit of a sport to find them.
  18. Interesting minute or two when this thing hit - wind 40+ mph on weather station and some very small hail hitting the windows.
  19. Wind last night vs shingle ridge cap shingles and the winner was....the wind. Having to replace part of the ridge cap FTL.
  20. I'm calling it at 4.25 inches here in New Hartford. Just flipped to rain @The 4 Seasons
