  1. Any day now, I'm expecting to see a grumpy old guy step up to a podium wearing a hoodie with cut off sleeves declare " We are onto December" whenever a question is asked. I think even Gandhi would be throwing his hands up in the air and slinging four letter adjectives regarding this winter.
  2. So far pretty much a net zero outcome here in New Hartford. I think we needed 1100-1200 feet to see a net gain - 1000 not quite enough. I think I need a taller hill.
  3. Bring it on - I could use a little pick me up! I do need to get diesel for the tractor - really long driveway about a 0.25 mille lone. Cabbed tractor with a 5 foot snowblower for the win!
  4. I grew up in Norfolk where cashing in is just the norm - we always beat everyone, but that has not been as prevalent in recent years for Norfolk.
  5. Liking the general trends here. I'm heading into my 5th winter here and I'm at 1,000 feet which has not been much of factor since moving here. I came from Ellington to New Hartford and hopefully the elevation will pay off this time.
  6. Welcome to Western CT - sooner or later we will regain our winter glory. The past few have been remarkable for their unremarkableness.
  7. As for solar - we generate well in excess of our annual usage. At the end of the year with our net metering agreement, we get $0.04 per kilowatt-hour credit for the surplus. That credit zeros out our bill for the first 4 or 5 months of the year - then for the rest of the year we pay $12-15/month. For 2021 we generated 127% and are well ahead of where we were for at this time last year. Solar made sense for us as this house is intended to be the last stop on this side of the grass.
  8. We built in 2018 and have 2 - 1000 gallon buried propane tanks. The key to propane is owning the tank(s). We can fill up once per year and get a pretty good deal as our neighbors also have 2 - 1000 gallon tanks and we do a bulk purchase.
  9. No experience with Trinity - we went with Earthlight (Sunpower panels) and Earthlight was excellent to work with and have been very helpful when we needed something after the sale/install.
  10. Congrats - I was an adjunct at UConn for about 15 years. The only thing better than the first class is when you are walking back to your car after the final exam after a really good semester.
  11. About half an hour ago - I was sitting on Route 20 right at the end of the runways at Bradley and looking south there was a very interesting cloud formation extending below the regular cloud deck with a ton of lightning coming out of it. Would have liked to take pictures but not possible safely.
  12. It looks like it is trying to fill in back here in New Hartford, but so far nothing from nothing leaves nothing.
  13. West has not been best 0.03" total out here in New Hartford. Pretty sad.
  14. I surprised to not see any lightning here in Litchfield County.
  15. I can skip the the damage aspect of this event (or non-event), but I would really like some rain. So far a total of 0.14 inches over the day day. Grass still dry under the trees.
  16. There goes the watch for SNE - I guess we will see what comes of it.
  17. As I posted in the banter thread - Northeastern Mass was insane with pollen, it actually improved as we came down into CT. It looked like smoke at a distance, but it was greenish color. Nasty!
  18. Drove home to CT today from Maine and the pollen in the in Northeastern Massachusetts was crazy. The air had a sick green color to it from the start of 495 down to the Pike.
  19. Sorry to hear that Tip, sometimes life can have a cruel streak.
  20. Wind is screaming here, pretty awesome. Power has been blinking a lot. Have a really long steep driveway (1/4 mile) and just went out to scrape the crud off the driveway and it is frozen solid. John Deere with 59 inch snowblower was not going budging it. Luckily it is March and tomorrow should do wonders. (Just like to keep the driveway open in the event of an emergency.)
  21. Fingers crossed. I would at least like to completely cover the grass once more.
