Yeah, 2010-11 style winters shouldn’t be a problem. They’re suited to the climate here for the most part, a few varieties don’t do well with below zero temperatures, but that really isn’t an issue here since such temperatures are extremely rare.
Sounds like a Crape Myrtle, which is actually an Asian species, but is very popular in the South and somewhat common here. They’ve always been here, but they weren’t always as popular as they are now. In Hicksville near IKEA there’s a row of mature 20-30 foot Crape Myrtles with pink flowers.
So far I’ve seen one downed tree and some downed branches. Power outages seem random, some areas have no power while adjacent areas do. Some traffic lights are only partially working, likely damaged by the winds.
My basil and pepper plants were steamrolled and I have some snapped palm fronds, but nothing terribly serious as far as I can see (which isn’t much at this hour).
1.03” final total. Rainfall rate peaked at 4 inches per hour.
Okay this is easily the most intense thunderstorm I’ve seen in ages. Buckets of rain blowing in every direction. Legit tropical storm conditions but with thunder and lightning.
Not much rain, but the CTG’s and wind are impressive.
Had a very close strike, maybe 50-75 feet away from me, I saw it almost overhead, instant loud thunder.
Edit: Only 0.16” here, looked more impressive on radar.
Severe Thunderstorm Watch just came through my weather radio.
I’m almost certain it’s set to KWO35, as it’s been dead silent for years until this summer. I’m not sure if WXM80 reaches here.
Boring but nice and comfortable. It was mild throughout followed by an early (and very warm) spring. We haven’t had that in a while.
If we had a more active version of 2012, I wouldn’t mind. I just want it to be mild.
Very close CTG strikes all around me, looking like flash grenades. My cue to go indoors.
Best storm of the year for me, though the bar for that title was on the ground. The microburst would’ve been #1 but I missed it.
84/77/94 with clouds encroaching from the NW, blowing in like a haboob, getting gusty here as well.
Topped out at 88. Only one 90 this month (Aug 4th) and two 89’s (Aug 1st and 18th).
87/80/101
7th day this summer with an 80 degree dew point at my PWS, granted my PWS is sited near vegetation (though still in full sun with good air circulation) and evapotranspiration is possibly a contributing factor.
