  1. 93/78/108 here. Looks like something’s trying to pop up to my immediate west. Don’t think it’s the sea breeze as it looks more convective.
  2. Ugh lol. As soon as I read this the sun started getting blocked out by it.
  3. I’m up to 96 now. I was expecting low 90’s today. I wish we had an official station closer to the LIE, or north of it. But FRG has been the EWR/LGA of LI lately.
  4. Same. Also a first for me outside of NYC. My last 80 degree low was Aug 2016 in Queens, it was a three day stretch of 80 degree lows if I remember correctly.
  5. That’s even more impressive to me. I’m actually watching the temp slowly creep upwards again.
  6. Still 84 here. Forecast says 78 tonight...UHI? I mean, obviously nothing on the scale of NYC and it’s immediate surroundings, but maybe? Long Island is fairly developed. High of 97, low of 71 today.
  7. Holding at 95/74 here, peaked at 97/77. I knew dews in the upper 60’s wouldn’t last.
  8. Do they monitor hourly obs for quality control purposes? Because I don’t see any other reason why 5 or 10 minute updates can’t be the norm. I know planes aren’t relying on data that’s 50+ minutes old.
  9. The sea breeze seems to have an immediate affect on the dew point while the temp responds a bit slower resulting in very high heat indices.
  10. My highest temp last summer was 98 (twice), in 2018 it was 99. On all three days the temperature was 96 at this time, same thing today and with much lower humidity. I’m thinking we hit 97-98.
  11. 96/70 (HI 102) here, highest temp of the summer so far.
  12. 93/70 (HI 99) here. Funny how a 70 degree dew point feels dry-ish to me now. Dews in the mid/upper 70’s have been the default for a while now.
  13. I remember squall lines (haven’t heard that term in ages), with severe thunderstorm watch boxes stretching from New England to NC.
  14. 89/76 underneath the sea breeze boundary. The sea breeze doesn’t even do much tbh, it drops the temp like 2 degrees and raises the dew point roughly 4-5 degrees, making it feel slightly hotter.
  15. 90/72 (HI 97) here, dews actually lower than most of the area for a change and you can feel it. The previous heat wave was brutal.
  16. 90/74 here, I seriously wasn’t expecting the heat wave to start today, but here we are.
  17. It’s crazy to think that we’re really watching these climate shifts in realtime. I’m in my 20’s and this is all very noticeable.
  18. They’ve really become quite ubiquitous around here, even the notoriously cold Feb 2015 barely affected them. They’re very attractive trees, though their spring leaf out is among the latest. Crepe Myrtles in Hicksville:
  19. New York Times is about half a century late on the “is now subtropical” part, but the environment is clearly responding to the increased warmth.
  20. Longest light show I’ve ever seen, I watched for 4 hours before falling asleep, it’s a shame it occurred over the ocean instead of just a few miles further north over us. Aug 13, 2016 in CT still takes the cake for the most impressive light show I’ve seen though, 2-3 strikes per second for well over an hour straight, watched it from LI, which of course got nothing. Seen some good ones in Orlando and Tampa too.
