What radar station do you guys use for this area on RadarScope? I’m using Greenville Spartanburg, but nothing seems to be really good. The returns have hardly matched what I’m seeing from the sky
I flip back and forth between GSP and MRX. The mountains block both and the SW corner of the state may as well be in a radar hole during snow events like this.

Tacked on another 1.25" in the last hour for 5.25". Still ripping. Consistent 1.25/hr last 3 hours.

Dry slot filling in quickly over GA now. Freezing rain/sleet reports down to the Atlanta burbs.

Hopefully out dancing in the snow and flipping the bird to all the people being morons in the comments on his FB posts.

Worth noting the HRRR has been trending slightly less stout with the warm nose last few runs. 12z comes very close to never changing over in the border counties.

2.75" as of 8AM but absolutely RIPPING right now.
Good to see you guys down south cashing in. Here's hoping we don't see the sleet transition later.

Absolutely dumping here south of Boone. Medium sized flakes. Haven't measured yet but will do my first one at 8AM.

It's been filling in pretty good down south. HRRR has it completely filled in over the next 2 hours.Man, that dry slot is going to be here in about 2 hours, at the most, now. Hope we can snow at least 1 inch per hour until then. That would put us at about 4 inches, if so.
Reporting from Black Mountain.

Yeah the HRRR initialization looks pretty bad currently comparing to SPC meso.Ik it was posted in main thread…. But the low looks to be Way down over Mobile Bay/Pensacola…. HRRR at current time had The Low up around Selma/Montgomery AL…. Umm that’s a tad off unless I’m looking at it wrong (I am new) but if I’m not the Hrrr initialized about 50 miles too far N than the surface …. What that means for us later is TBD but interesting to me

Welcome to the madhouse! Thanks for not bringing Cantore with you. He can keep his hex down in Asheville.

Spent the afternoon running instacart around Banner Elk and I have never seen this many people up here. Absolutely bananas.
County is having staffing issues due to COVID too so may be down some snow plows. Got a feeling we're going to have a mess come Monday morning.

My average air temp since January 3rd is 31 degrees. Definitely a totally different scenario than we had going into the last one when the previous 2 weeks were a good 10-20 degrees higher.Temp down to 26. Ground temps ain't going to be a problem.

It's an improvement over 12z but it's the slowest model and struggling with the transfer
Can't stress this enough. The LP isn't going to visit Murphy/Highlands/Franklin.

MRX updated my point forecast to show 10-17". Weeeeeee

GFS sounding from the IP area. I don't know that I'd worry about it too much with the rates it's showing. Also I would almost guarantee it underdoing the CAD.

FWIW the RGEM doesn't turn the LP right up the spine of the apps like the NAM wants to.
