  1. Low of 19 on my weather station with 3" of snow overnight for a total of 5" since Monday night. During the same period, MQT received 5.1". One more cold night in the teens before more average like temps take hold. Becoming sunny today with a high of 35. Just glancing at the GFS, this could be a wrap on the 2021-22 snow season.
  2. There's better times to visit than the first half of May, for sure. I notice you've been up at all times of the year. Which is your favorite to visit? I'd recommend late August. The summer visitors are gone, so are the bugs, and it's before the autumn rush of tourists. The lake is warm, nights are cool... usually dry.
  3. About 75% of the ground is still covered with anywhere from 4-12". Any open areas quickly being covered up this evening.
  4. Snow increasing in intensity as the sun heads lower... it stopped accumulating earlier this afternoon and even melted away on the driveway and truck but has since began sticking to all surfaces again. Should see 2-3 inches tonight with winds shifting more nne which is a very favorable wind direction for my area. Down to 22 degrees already. Looks like late Nov/early Dec out.
  5. Good moisture, cold northerly flow, perfect setup here for snow. Have had 2.5 inches overnight and this morning and snow’s still coming down. High today only 28. Colder than most of the subs mid winter average high. If it clears, teens tonight. The Yoop and the Arrowhead all by themselves in another season. In fact, by this map mby may be one of the coldest places in the lower 48 today. I'm so honored MQT: Here at the NWS Marquette office, the temp just after midnight was 27F. As long as the temp today does not exceed 30F (that definitely looks like the case), today will end up with the lowest max temp for so late in the season.
  6. Hopefully you can retire in INL. Seems like the perfect place for you.
  7. Springtime has failed to arrive this year. The robins are returning with nothing to eat. Thankfully some warmer days starting tomorrow. Pics from this morning.
  8. Like many of you it's snowing again this morning. Probably will reach 2 inches before it changes over to light rain, then back to snow this evening where a light northerly upslope component could add another 2 or so inches (or several if the ARW and NSSL are to be believed). I've received 14 inches nickel-n-diming it this month which is really close to the average for April up this way. Yesterday was gorgeous with light wind, sunny skies and a high temp of 37. Was outside all day. A few more days of the coolness then hopefully more seasonable temps will arrive and stay.
  9. 18-20" here in the woods around my house. That's even after a cold 2.65" of rain this past week. Saw a fisher yesterday around the barn snooping for my chicks, so I followed his tracks through the woods, and with all the rain lately I'd sink through in spots and it was up to my knees still. Yesterday morning was 22 with a high of 27, a low this morning of 19 but should climb to around 35 today before more snow moves in late tonight with a few inches possible.
  10. I'm guessing most traces of snow will be gone by May 10th.
  11. Vigorous Springtime snow showers all day. Near 1/4 mile visibility one minute then sunshine the next then back to snow. Still SO MUCH snow otg!
  12. I'll take the extra few weeks of our subs cool, cloudy weather over 4 months of 100+ D-4 conditions, anytime.
  13. Last year was weird. In the 8 years I've lived here, I had never seen the snow leave so early. Barely crossed 150 inches here which is around 80 inches below normal.
  14. April 7th last year. Although it did snow after this date, this was the last pic I took of the seasonal snow otg. April 9th, 2022
  15. Shoveled 8 inches of snow off the deck this morning, all of that falling from Thursday night through earlier this morning. The high today should reach the mid-30's and then upper 40's the next 4 days with lows barely falling to freezing. I think the long awaited door to spring has finally opened.
  16. Had fun doing some shooting with a buddy down in Negaunee today. Measured 26 inches 5 miles north of town at the gun club. Going to see snow into May this year unless we get some warmth and rain.
  17. Looks like 3.5- 4" of wet snow overnight with 3-6 more through this evening. Is what it is.
  18. I would say this years water content is high just because of how late in the season it is, but as far as it being anything unusual, it isn't... In most years the SWE (locally) peaks in the 12-16" range. You also have to factor in the absorption of rain/freezing rain into the snow pack. I doubt this modeling depicts any of that. This years snow pack is extremely dense and resilient.
  19. still 22-24" otg here and extremely slow to melt even with the rain. It just absorbed it all. Got to be 9-10" liquid locked up in the snowpack.
  20. .62" of rain the past two days with temps in the mid 30's for the most part. Looks like the porkies are going to get buried with 15-20" of snow the next two days. Could approach a foot here as colder air works in later today into tonight.
  21. Even tho I'm ready for a new season, the beauty of snow never gets old. Walking in the woods today, the birds were singing, the sun felt warm. It was nice just to soak it all in knowing winter is in retreat and that days like this are numbered. I'm looking forward to spring and outdoor chores, projects, riding my dirt bike, enjoying sun and warmth, but always knowing in the back of my mind, in the UP winter is always coming!
  22. I'll probably end up with 5-6 inches unless they're under forecasting the lake effect tonight.
  23. Scene here at my house earlier today as the system departed and before the lake effect kicked in. Moderate to at times heavy snow falling now with a temp of 25 degrees.
