  1. 21 degrees with light snow showers the past few hours. Spring in the southern sub
  2. Many times especially during early and late season events It'll be snowing here, and in Big Bay and Marquette it's plain rain. I do. I live on a north facing hill. My house sits at 1640' with the hill peaking behind my house around 1700'. Just a few miles away elevation quickly falls to around 1100' so there's a quick 600' rise to my house and that's not including the fact that I'm roughly 1100' in elevation above Superior which is roughly 8 miles away. Also I'm close to 200' above the MQT WFO down near Negaunee, which is a magnet all their own. And as Beav mentioned, my area is pretty much upslope to some degree in every direction. This place is a fog haven as well.
  3. 6 for the overnight low with fresh snow otg. Should reach the mid-30's today with full sun. Will take advantage of the warm sun and clear snow. As usual my little spot here in N Marquette County cleaned up. I'm always amazed by the snow magnet of this particular spot. A few pics from this morning. Snow stake reads 43 inches otg. Ok so no one laugh (I'm no carpenter) at my hillbilly woodshed. I had the bright idea last Summmer to build one out of used pallets. Might not be pretty but it works. The walls are 8'. Gives a good perspective on how deep the snow really is here.
  4. Have you considered doing your trips in March? At least around here, March is the snowpack peak usually.
  5. MQT norms are 36/16. Today tho the high temp was only 15 in Negaunee and with the record low max for the date being 19, that record will fall. In many ways March feels more like a winter month than December up this way... Cold is entrenched and snow is deep. Snow and wind winding down but it got real nasty there for a while with some blizzard-like conditions. As of 5 pm MQT's 2 day total is 12.8" ( sle .84). 210.5" for the season... around 10" above normal for the entire season and on average they'll see 30 inches more of snow.
  6. All the other buildings and sheds I have are built to withstand the snow load. This particular little shed was originally a chicken coop that sat behind an old cabin from 1916 that I had demolished last July. I thought it could take the load, as I’ve never cleared the roof in all the years I’ve lived here and depths routinely reach 4’. I did however put a metal roof on it 3 summers ago and fixed a few minor issues.
  7. Heavy lake effect snow, 14 degrees. Have easily picked up a foot of snow since Friday midnight-ish when rain changed over, then a lull from mid-afternoon yesterday to just before 11 last night and it's been snowing since. As of 7am MQT was at 8.2" and have to be nearing a foot by now. Some other notable totals: Ontonagon 15.4" Painsdale 15.5" Twin Lakes 17.2" Ironwoood 21.3" Looks like my garden shed has lost its structural integrity under the weight of the snow.
  8. Rain held on til somewhere midnight-ish. I fell asleep around 11 and it was raining, woke up at 1:30 to go to bed and it was snowing. Have picked up 4.5" of really wet paste...a lull in activity now with just light snow and flurries but snow will increase again later today with a foot possible in this local area before things end.
  9. Temp is 37/dp 31.4. Will be all rain here until late evening at least. If the forecast verifies, this'll be a nice event for the northern counties in the UP.
  10. Over here, the 12z Euro and GFS verbatim are predicting 18 and 17" as opposed to 37 and 48" 24 hours ago. Still respectable but can't say I'm surprised by the reduction in totals. And it's probably not done.
  11. Might have jumped the gun on this one. 12z models so far do not look good. Hi-res even looks horrible if you're wanting an epic storm up here. Oh well, tbh, I'd rather not have the headache of 2-3 feet right now.
  12. Looks like a beautiful day on tap here to do some chores outside, then head down to town and pick up a few things before the storm arrives. Looking like a doozy with up to 30” by Saturday 8 am and still snowing.
  13. Cautiously excited. Am also a little concerned about the snow load with a storm of this potential magnitude, especially with rain as the initial precip. I was feeling so good about not shoveling the roof this winter. Snow still flying this afternoon with the advisory extended until 11 pm.
  14. Snow continues to fall heavy at times. Looks like it may take a tad longer to clear out than I figured. 2 inches shy of 4' otg, with the piles over 6'. Watching late week storm for 2-3' more as things look now. The most snow I've ever seen otg here is 63".
  15. Snow still falling as the last of lake enhanced snow moves through between now and noon. Including yesterday and last night, 6.5-7" has fallen here. Snow stake out front is measuring 44" this morning. Looking out dining room window.
  16. webcams in Duluth are pretty impressive as that band slides through. Duluth Harbor Cam: Hillside Cam
  17. Up to 11 inches in the forecast by noon tomorrow and not even a SPS for the boonies.
  18. Thought things were winding down earlier but terrain/lake enhancement has kept moderate snow falling. Up to 7 inches now. As of 5 pm MQT had a recorded 5.9", a record for the day. Deep late winter snowpack in place
  19. System performed as expected here. Forecast was for 6 inches and i'd say it's snowed 5 since around 6 am with things beginning to wind down. High temp was 30.
  20. Hey, thanks! Chickens are fine, all 16 have stayed laying throughout winter. They're just rowdy and pissy, wanting spring like most of us. Not so quick, however. Looks like another wet snow moves in starting tonight with 8 inches forecast for a small sliver through my neck of the woods.
  21. switched from rain to snow in Warsaw, Indiana in just the past few minutes. Snowing nice. Live Webcam Village at Winona Lake, Indiana, USA (webcamtaxi.com)
  22. No shoveling roofs this winter, and my house is nicely insulated so I don't have any major ice issues either. The wood stove stack does create a little bit but it's never been a problem... so far. Should I receive another heavy snow, I may pull some off the edge.
