  2. -27 here this morning. I could hear things creaking and at one point heard a super loud pop somewhere near the house. I assume it was a tree. 000 NOUS43 KMQT 261456 PNSMQT MIZ001>007-009>014-084-085-270256- PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MARQUETTE MI 956 AM EST SAT JAN 26 2019 ...SUMMARY OF COLDEST WIND CHILLS MORNING OF SATURDAY JANUARY 26... 3. After a wild night, cleared for a bit and dropped to -13.
  4. Winter storm warnings posted for the shoreline counties of the UP. Upwards of 8" here through tonight, the temp dropping to -10 with 30-40 mph winds. Blizzard-like conditions at times, whiteouts and dangerous wind chills... M-28 between Mqt and Munising will surely close. In weather like this, it makes the remoteness here seem even more so. I would NOT want to get stuck or stranded.
  5. Stick around long enough, you’ll see it. It’s been a few consecutive bad winters down there. Living near Ft. Wayne for many years growing up, I remember 1-2 decent snows a year and regular snow cover otg for 3-5 weeks a season.
  6. There’s decent snow on the ground there, a foot or more, but probably nothing more than an inch or so of snow is likely to fall this weekend... sorry
  7. IDK... All you need is a good week and you're caught up. I wonder when the last time APX (Gaylord area) failed to reach 100"? I bet it's pretty rare. Don't give up... Winter is young, lake MI is wide open and there's cold coming.
  8. Lots of snow and wind the past few days. More than a foot has fallen. Watching an interesting ene lake-enhanced setup tomorrow night and sat am. Could be a surprise few inches. snow keeps piling up... season total over 100". I see MQT is at 95", about 8" above for the season.
  9. 12 degrees, windchill below zero, low visibility snow showers... this is winter.
  10. With the wind and wet snow combo, this has been an impressive mini storm. 6.5-7" of concrete snow has fallen since about 4 am. A very wet and dense 2' snowpack now in place here in the highest terrain areas. I've noticed with the mild temps this winter, there's been very few fluffy snows... it's made for an awesome base to build on.
  11. Snow has come down fast and heavy since early a.m.. Looks like just over 5” thus far... the highest wind gust has been 37. 2-3 more inches likely. Mod/heavy snow again Tuesday afternoon through Thursday
  12. I don’t, and I don’t want one. I have 2 wood stoves for heat and to cook if necessary. If anything, I’d be interested in solar as a back up. Will, the power seems to go out here more frequently. In the past year, I’ve lost power numerous times. The longest being a day.
  13. A little concerned about power outages with the wet snow/wind combo ...HAZARDOUS TRAVEL LIKELY LATE SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH MID TO LATE MONDAY... Travel will become increasingly difficult late Sunday night through Monday, especially during the Monday morning commute, as a swath of wet, moderate to at times heavy snow overspreads the Upper Peninsula. Snow will fall heaviest Monday morning into early afternoon, especially across the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula and across central and eastern Upper Michigan where 5 to 8 inches of snow look possible at this time. Elsewhere, mainly across western Upper Michigan, snowfall amounts could top out around 4 to 5 inches in a few spots; however, travel will still be difficult due to the wet nature of the snow. Along with falling snow creating reduced visibilities, southeast winds are expected to increase with gusts upwards of 30 to 45 mph at times. These strong winds, especially over the tip of the Keweenaw and near Lake Superior and Lake Michigan will create not only blowing and drifting snow concerns, but the potential for near white-out conditions at times.
  14. 27 degrees this morning, afternoon high of 40... normal is 22.
  15. Coldest night of the winter so far, -7 was the low here.
  16. Lived in sw lower near Stevensville. I was 10, but I have pics in a photo album of the drifts. We were snowed in for a couple days and the snow lasted on the ground the rest of the winter pretty much. This storm is why I fell in love with snow and weather and essentially ended up here. joined the forums in 2004... tone deaf in every way. I remember being teased by Will and Forky
  17. Made it home... asshole in permanent pucker. Heavy wet snow from Cadillac to the bridge and very heavy snow in Antrim and Charlevoix counties, especially just south of Petoskey. I'll be interested to see a total snowfall map. Once we crossed the bridge the temp went from 32 to the low 20's pretty quick with howling winds and blowing snow. Thankfully most of the meaningful snow had ended by then. Winds along the lakeshore from Munising to Marquette seemed easily gale force. It was hard at times to keep the truck on the road... thank God for rumble strips! Once west of Marquette in the higher terrain, ran back into heavier and deeper snow on the road but made it home no problem. 13 degrees, snowing and blowing. Happy New Year you guys!
  18. Once I’m across the bridge, it feels like home. My house is 4 hours from the bridge, however, and I see it’s snowing there too. In Petoskey now. Someone in Charlevoix County is going to see a foot.
  19. I drove from Indiana to Fife Lake, then let the other half drive. I just want to get home, my kitty has been alone 2 days!
  20. Just crossed into charlevoix county and estimate 5-6” on the ground and pounding. I saw 2 sleds near mancitucky
