  1. Haven't hit 50 yet but it's gonna be in the 60's and 70's in a few days... all in for a rapid melt.
  2. Cold and windy day in the mid 20's. Windchill stayed in the low teens and even single digits most of the day... went for a walk on top on the still 40 inches of snow otg.
  3. Going to feel like a solid winter day up here. Wind advisory, high of 27 with a couple inches of snow between today and tonight. Looking at Duluth radar tho, some of the snow showers could pack a brief punch. First 50 of the season forecast Sunday with the first 60 Monday.
  4. Thunder and lightening with snow and sleet woke me up earlier. Was surreal to see the lightening against the snow cover illuminate everything. 30 with freezing drizzle/fog now. Maybe another round of thunder with the front. Spring is here!
  5. I know. I've been marveling at the difference in temps from N to S. A tale of two subs.
  6. High of 28 here with a quick 2 inches of heavy snow this afternoon. Freezing rain and sleet could become a real issue here later tonight before it goes above freezing in the morning. Point has a high of 49 tomorrow. If I break 50, it will be the first time since Autumn.
  7. Fair enough...lol How much more is needed. On average 20 more inches will fall here.
  8. A few more pics as the sun tries to make an appearance. Sitting with just under 4' otg. Is it okay to root for Spring now?
  9. This was moisture laden system. A two day total of 13 inches here with 10 of that falling since 10 pm. Snow has ended but the wind is howling. MQT received 12.5" (2.12" liquid equiv) with 44" otg this morning... parts of the central UP no doubt saw 2 feet. "Getting reports of impassible roads across southern Marquette, parts of Delta and Alger counties. There's probably some in Schoolcraft and Luce as well. If you don't have to be out today, stay home and give the plows a chance to clear things out." Feel like this is gonna be one helluva long melt this year.
  10. Not exactly sure, I stopped counting after 200 inches.
  11. Little bit of winter still to go up here in the northern sub. Ice, rain, and snow all in the cards. Between the two rounds, if the forecast holds, could see upwards of 20 inches in parts of the UP.
  12. You had a favorable setup. Lake MI hasn't warmed enough to change your snow climo. JFC.
  13. In the 9 years I've been here, this was the brightest and highest I have ever seen. I watched from 12-4 am.
  14. Pretty massive snowpack in place here. Probably won't be gone until first week or so of May, which'll end up being around 6 months with snow otg. Northern lights thursday night at 1 am.
  15. Nice. A little north of my area by just a few miles. I have a buddy that owns a hundred acres near the hair pin curve on 510 and that's where I hunt some years and have camped there as well... a beautiful, remote area to enjoy exploring during the summer. This is actually a pic I posted in March of 2019 from my buddy's camp on the 100 acres.
  16. Even tho the snow is a little above average for a few areas, It def had an average if not mild feel.
  17. So Marquette and Duluth and Minneapolis to date have had severe winters? seemed too mild for the severe index. Maybe it’s the snow cover.
  18. Winter's gas light is on... only a matter of time.
  19. 21 degrees with light snow showers the past few hours. Spring in the southern sub
  20. Many times especially during early and late season events It'll be snowing here, and in Big Bay and Marquette it's plain rain. I do. I live on a north facing hill. My house sits at 1640' with the hill peaking behind my house around 1700'. Just a few miles away elevation quickly falls to around 1100' so there's a quick 600' rise to my house and that's not including the fact that I'm roughly 1100' in elevation above Superior which is roughly 8 miles away. Also I'm close to 200' above the MQT WFO down near Negaunee, which is a magnet all their own. And as Beav mentioned, my area is pretty much upslope to some degree in every direction. This place is a fog haven as well.
  21. 6 for the overnight low with fresh snow otg. Should reach the mid-30's today with full sun. Will take advantage of the warm sun and clear snow. As usual my little spot here in N Marquette County cleaned up. I'm always amazed by the snow magnet of this particular spot. A few pics from this morning. Snow stake reads 43 inches otg. Ok so no one laugh (I'm no carpenter) at my hillbilly woodshed. I had the bright idea last Summmer to build one out of used pallets. Might not be pretty but it works. The walls are 8'. Gives a good perspective on how deep the snow really is here.
  22. Have you considered doing your trips in March? At least around here, March is the snowpack peak usually.
  23. MQT norms are 36/16. Today tho the high temp was only 15 in Negaunee and with the record low max for the date being 19, that record will fall. In many ways March feels more like a winter month than December up this way... Cold is entrenched and snow is deep. Snow and wind winding down but it got real nasty there for a while with some blizzard-like conditions. As of 5 pm MQT's 2 day total is 12.8" ( sle .84). 210.5" for the season... around 10" above normal for the entire season and on average they'll see 30 inches more of snow.
  24. All the other buildings and sheds I have are built to withstand the snow load. This particular little shed was originally a chicken coop that sat behind an old cabin from 1916 that I had demolished last July. I thought it could take the load, as I’ve never cleared the roof in all the years I’ve lived here and depths routinely reach 4’. I did however put a metal roof on it 3 summers ago and fixed a few minor issues.
  25. Heavy lake effect snow, 14 degrees. Have easily picked up a foot of snow since Friday midnight-ish when rain changed over, then a lull from mid-afternoon yesterday to just before 11 last night and it's been snowing since. As of 7am MQT was at 8.2" and have to be nearing a foot by now. Some other notable totals: Ontonagon 15.4" Painsdale 15.5" Twin Lakes 17.2" Ironwoood 21.3" Looks like my garden shed has lost its structural integrity under the weight of the snow.
