  1. A mildish 46 here this afternoon, and a forecast high of 51 tomorrow. After that, looks like the ground will turn white this weekend with seasonal snow probably here to stay. Just in time for opening day.
  2. Woke up with windows open and 60 degrees. Tonight it's 37 with a toasty fire blazin. Winter is knocking on the door.
  3. Incredible. MQT: A record high temperature of 71 degrees was set today at the Marquette National Weather Service office, located in Negaunee Township. This breaks the old record of 66 set back in 1975. Weather records for the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Negaunee Township date back to 1961. #miwx #906wx
  4. Another beautiful day with 66 and sun this afternoon. Another repeat tomorrow before wet and cooler weather moves in, but still above normal. MQT Key Messages: -Thursday last dry day until after weekend -Thunderstorm potential west Fri -Training showers + high moisture = hydro concern potential -Secondary low surges through Sat. leads to gusty winds
  5. Interesting month at MQT to say the least. 4.59" (19.1" snowfall) Avg temp 46.2 (+2.7) Lowest: 26 highest: 75 Nice Autumn so far.
  6. After nearly 10 years up here, the woods, animals, nature, the peace and quiet, all have become a part of my heart and I can't imagine ever leaving... medicine for the soul.
  7. Unbelievable stretch of weather for this time of year. As long as there's snow by the 15th, I'm good with this.
  8. After several beautiful days, back to reality this morning with very light snow showers off the lake. Next several days look nice with sun and 50’s. I’ll take it.
  9. Sitting at 70 with full sun and gusty winds, mid 60’s past two days. snow is 97% gone, hanging on in north facing shady areas.
  10. In 2016 I went to the Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette and saw the author, Karl Bohnak (who at the time was our longtime chief met here in the UP), do a live picture presentation of the book and actually got a signed copy....definitely a good read.
  11. I could definitely see someone with health issues or a bad heart having a serious situation arise shoveling this concrete type snow, but I mostly use equipment and only have to really shovel the deck and I’m letting it melt off this time since it’s so early and nice weather’s to come. And I’ve shoveled 4’ off the roof for almost 8 hours straight so I hope I’m okay for a few more years. pic from down in Negaunee today
  12. Looks like a nice, warm weekend and with ground temps still above freezing, I have to think that most if not all the snow will melt. I'm hoping so. Not quite ready for the snow to stick around as I still have some Fall projects to wrap up. Over the Summer I converted my woodshed into a chx coop, so had to build another shed for the wood, and thankfully just finished getting it all split and stacked right before the storm. I wouldn't even be disappointed if winter snow held off another month. Storm total map. Appears the bullseye was up here in my neck of the woods. Snow has compacted quite a bit already. Last night when deeper forcing/moisture moved out, the temp actually warmed to 35 and even rained a bit before falling to 29 for the low. I have about a foot of dense snow otg.
  13. Agree. However, a fluffier 40" storm combined with the wind this system had would have been all around epic.
  14. As of 5 pm MQT has recorded a two day total of 18 inches (2.48" liquid). That's an average SLR of 7.25:1. This is some of the wettest snow I have ever had the pleasure to clear. My blower wont even throw it, it's like a never ending ice turd just plopping out. I'd bet over 20" has fallen here and its still snowing, albeit much lighter. A few more weeks deeper into the season and this would have been a real humdinger.
  15. Hey all. Thought I better check in. Heck of a storm for mid October. 16-18" of heavy wet snow has fallen, with a foot of that just overnight. There was a six hour period of near blizzard conditions from 7pm-1 am. More snow wrapping back in with 3-6" possible. My chickens are in shock.
  16. As a fellow snow lover I always enjoy your winter recap pics. I'll add a few I've not shared before that I took randomly this past winter.
  17. It was a beautiful 58 today. Snow is melting pretty quick. It'll be mostly gone this weekend, finally.
  18. Nice sat shot today of the remaining snow and frozen lakes in the nw part of the UP.
  19. As long as we have a nice summer it’s worth it. Right now sunny and 50 would make me happy.
  20. Yeah, they’re in between the hills of the Keweenaw and the western edge of the Michigamme highlands, it’s super flat and most winds downslope into the area.
  21. A county over in the usual cold spot, Baraga Plains dropped to 9 degrees. They can routinely fall into the low 30's even in July. Oddly, they're also the hot spot a lot of the time during heat waves.
  22. Low of 19 on my weather station with 3" of snow overnight for a total of 5" since Monday night. During the same period, MQT received 5.1". One more cold night in the teens before more average like temps take hold. Becoming sunny today with a high of 35. Just glancing at the GFS, this could be a wrap on the 2021-22 snow season.
  23. There's better times to visit than the first half of May, for sure. I notice you've been up at all times of the year. Which is your favorite to visit? I'd recommend late August. The summer visitors are gone, so are the bugs, and it's before the autumn rush of tourists. The lake is warm, nights are cool... usually dry.
