It wasn’t just the ski resorts that got buried. Any elevation above 1500’ in the Northern Greens got lit up. This is looking at Burke Mt. and somewhere else in Burke above Lake Willoughby.
Golf courses here in the middle of VT at 1000’+ elevation opened here that year. I remember going to play and taking a dirt road to get there. Got stuck in the mud and had to call a tow truck to get out.
Interesting piece on NWS participation in the 1980 Winter Olympics. https://vlab.ncep.noaa.gov/web/nws-heritage/-/no-snow-in-sight-the-nws-and-the-1980-olympic-winter-games
That was sort of what I was thinking. The other thought I had was maybe there is a standard correlation. If there was, I’d think it would almost a 2-1 ratio anyway.
The northern Greens have gained some snow the last week or two. Was -18 when I got up so decided to get a later start to our ride. Was 0 when we left at 10:00 am. Beautiful day to be out.
No doubt. That year was worse and so was 15/16. 05/06 was worse too. This one has been below average in some respects but I’ve had snow in my yard since November 12, though it got down to patches at least once. It hasn’t been able build deep pack or sustain cold temps so some winter activities have been hampered.
