  1. My wife did not listen to his advice...
  2. These words bring a tear of joy to my eye.
  3. Because of the hate and/or lack of interest in the main thread, I figured I'd post some expected storm total charts here.
  4. Drove through Rumford Sunday. Trust me, I knew we were going by them. Not as strong smelling as I remember though.
  5. I'd say lock that in but I'm a little gun shy this year
  6. You may have passed me somewhere between Bangor and Augusta Sunday afternoon. I saw a couple trucks with Mass plates and sleds in back fly by.
  7. 330 to Millinocket from here and just over 6 hours. It’s a bitch going East/West in NNE. I generally ride from home. Can even do that now, though it’s a bit scratchy until you get a little higher up in elevation. Early and late season I can trailer to a great parking lot 20 minutes away and for the very end or earliest start about an hour and a half up to the NEK.
  8. It really is a beautiful area. I read Thoreau's Maine Woods when I was young and really loved it. For any number of reason's I never did that exploring it made me dream of. This trip really rekindled my interest in that area.
  9. I think I have now driven through the towns of all our NNE posters. Decided to take Rt.2 home from ME yesterday and drove through Tamarack's town of New Sharon. I think he's making up his great snowpack retention, in fact, I think I saw palm trees! Just kidding. It was interesting to see the ebb and flow of snow on the way through. The Rumford area seemed to have a decent amount on the ground. Of course the one thing I remember about Rumford is the smell of the paper mill and it's still there.
  10. I feel bad for Finau, he just can't seem to get over the finish line. I listened to quite a bit of it on satellite radio driving home from Maine. Stopped for dinner with Finau leading by 2, came back out to hear Simpson sink the winning putt.
  11. After you’ve made your final measurements.
  12. Couple of more pics from our short ride this morning.
  13. I was just going to ask that. I’m not an experienced hiker but I can’t think of anything I’ve seen like that in this part of the country. Mansfield, Mt. Washington, the Presidentials you can see from the car or anything in VA or NC that I’ve driven through, are nothing like that. Anything in the Adirondacks?
  14. Yes, that is Katahdin. I wish the summit hadn’t been obscured.
  15. I have a friend who goes riding up in the Saguenay and he says it’s beautiful. I’ve done so little exploring in PQ other than Montreal. I’ve really have to do more
  16. I’m not sure what PQ is like past Jackman but it is a shocking change when you cross the border up in Pittsburg NH. You feel like your at end of the world, cross the border and look out over flat forest and farmland.
  17. I think he just jinxed it, no pun intended.
  18. I’m not sure. Moosehead remains to be checked on my Maine Must See list.
  19. This may sound a bit out there but it reminds me of pictures I’ve seen of Alaska. Denali shoots up out of lower surrounding land. Obviously a much grander scale and I’ve never been to Alaska but it feels a little like that.
  20. I wondered about that too. I haven’t found anything yet. It’s a more wildernessy feel here compared to the Mt. Washington area. Of course Baxter State Park is like 200,000 acres of wilderness and there are no ski areas anywhere nearby.
  21. My son only turned on his ride tracking app halfway through our ride today after we had gone around it on what they call the Tote Road. From Matagamon Wilderness Camps back to Millinocket, the highest elevation we saw something like 985’. I’m sure it was somewhat higher earlier in the ride but I don’t know if we ever got to 1500’. That means Katahdin shoots up 4000’ from the surrounding area. It looms over you at times. Really beautiful area.
  22. I was thinking almost the same. Mansfield from Burlington has the same, nothing else in the way so it’s pretty impressive too but the extra 1000’ or so on Katahdin kicks it up a notch. I’m sure PF or JSpin have a shot from that angle.
