  1. Snow shower with wind and down to 26 in Germantown. Looks wintry with drifting in the hilly part of the yard and grass covered. The car in the driveway must be completely crusted under that snow -- might just let it melt Monday. To think I hit the wipers yesterday to wash pollen off!
  2. Sky darkened back up and light snow falling again as the bands move in; 29 degrees. Nice event for some of us but the WTOP headlines make it look like the area got crushed LOL
  3. Wow that is incredible! That wasn't all wind. Your micro climate is fascinating -- how about summer? If Balt is say mid-90s, what about you?
  4. Trees still have a lot of snow on them despite the winds. Looks very wintery with about 3 inches, and hoping for a squall later. How 'bout this from down south -- Knoxville had seven straight days in the 70s ending Monday, then 50s and 60s with a high of 67 yesterday, and got 5-8 inches!
  5. Eyeballing 3" in Germantown; 29 degrees. Snow is lightening up but the gusty winds are blowing snow off roofs and trees into impressive sheets. Every so often we get a real roaring gust and it's a whiteout for a few seconds. And I took a walk yesterday afternoon at 62 degrees
  6. Mod snow in Germantown and eyeballing about 1.5" Getting some good gusts here and there
  7. Back to moderate snow in Germantown with about a half inch and starting to stick on streets. The unexpected part is almost no wind
  8. Down to 32 now but sleet mixed back in after all snow for a half hour. Wasn't expecting that! Solid dusting on grass
  9. Already changing over to snow near Germantown. My bar is I just want to see a period of heavy snow which I have not seen this winter.
  10. Near Germantown went from rain and 40 a half hour ago to sleet and 37 now
  11. This is looking exciting and could be like a miniature version of the 2011 "Hoffman Storm" with rain changing to wind-blown heavy snow. Should be fun. Oh and how about sunny and 60s from Tuesday onward next week? Gimme some of that!
  12. Ha! Try being a 70s weenie and running home from school to flip on the ol' Bearcat weather radio. Then you have to wait through the darn river stages being read off before you get your updated forecast
  13. Congrats! After living through Calvert winters, you deserve it (I grew up in Owings)
  14. Gaithersburg jumped from 43 to 58 between 4 am and 5 am
  15. Still chilly out but looking forward to 60s this afternoon to do some garden clean-up. Gorgeous temps tomorrow and Monday, but I'd give up 10 degrees each day for less wind! Gimme a huge SE ridge for the second half of March
  16. Got my tropical milkweeds started yesterday. You'd think "weeds" would be easy but the darn things are hard to germinate so I put three seeds in each cell. I grow these for the Monarchs but the hummingbirds absolutely love them. Speaking of herbs -- I'm going to add parsley, rue and maybe fennel for more swallowtails.
  17. Just had a brief snow shower with gusts of over 40. Those squalls heading for the Trenton, NJ area must be intense based on radar!
  18. Wow this wind is roaring! PAX at 70 degrees at 6 am while Cumberland 37. Falling quickly thru low 50s here. A house two streets over has one of those motion detector lights over the garage door as bright as the dang sun, and it keeps coming on from wind. I feel for the two houses directly across the street from that darn thing!
  19. Yes please! Can't wait to get the garden going soon.
  20. I can see how those squalls have been heavy where they hit flush -- we caught the west edge of a teeny snow shower and the sky stayed partly blue, but it was a better snow rate than during yesterday's inch. Only snowed a couple minutes but it whitened sidewalks/streets.
  21. Ordered some tropical milkweed seeds and I overwintered two cherished lantanas inside. I was really happy with the new sterile Bloomify lantanas last year that got 20" tall by 30" wide by September. Hummingbirds and butterflies love them! This winter was dreary and the third straight without a big snow. I'm done and hoping for massive torch for late Feb into March. Bring on spring!
  22. Man that looks nice! Rooting for it bigtime. Different setup but I was just remembering a snow in early Feb. 1997 where we were in the mid/upper 60s the day before with sun, and I was thinking no way. It worked out great with about 6" of picturesque snow in upper MontCo.
  23. I can't believe how bad my area (near Germantown) got blown out by my family's area in northern and central Calvert. Man they got 12-15 on Jan 3 and another good one last weekend. If we don't get another chance this will be three straight winters without a significant snow.
