  1. Pretty sweet summer sunset. This really is pure summer, seasons in seasons. Through a weakening rain shaft on the south side and then anvil on the north side with a couple mammatus cold pockets descending under the parent cloud.
  2. Put that on the weather.gov 9 dangers of hiking graphic.
  3. Mansfield managed to stay relatively cloud free on the hill today for some reason, lots of sunshine so today was actually the hottest day in the stretch up there. 82F at the picnic tables, only 3F off the all-time high set in May, which matches with BTV's 94F. They hit 95F that day in May when the summit hit 85F. Yesterday afternoon storms kept the temp down.
  4. This is the cell down near Waterbury as seen from my place, hearing the thunder from it... there's even some mammatus clouds now in the armpit of that thing.
  5. The crazy cloud porn continues from these localized storms. This is the cell down near Waterbury as seen from my place, hearing the thunder from it... there's even some mammatus clouds now in the armpit of that thing.
  6. Yeah that makes more sense. Urban flooding doesn’t vary with weeks of dryness... if it takes a fast 1-2” to flood parking lots and low areas on highways, then that’s what it takes. I was looking at it through the lens up here on how much water it takes to get a stream into a muddy torrent blowing out culverts and washouts. Usually those FF guidance progs are pretty accurate in that regard.
  7. At least 94F at BTV again today.... dews in the mid-50s though keeping RH <30%. We hit at least 90F here for the 4th straight day... BML and IZG also with their 4th straight 90F or higher day. NNE torch flames on. The mountain valleys are the new BDL.
  8. Actually probably pretty close in Brockton if they are over 2".... 1-hr FF values showing 2.5-3.0" there. The Cape needs a lot of water to trigger, ha. Though I don't know how this takes into account urban areas... that's probably a different animal than how much rain it takes to make a waterway a muddy torrent. A highway underpass probably floods with the same amount of water whether its been dry or not.
  9. Some good cloud porn today though on the whole.
  10. It's been dry? We had a couple locations just north of here come in with 1.88" and 2.10" in very short order yesterday with no FFW. I think the FF guidance is really high, like 3"/hr or more right now.
  11. Towers going up in every direction.
  12. BML already hit 90F... think that’s 4 in a row.
  13. I know how CT can get, every other year I go down there it seems ridiculously humid with the sites 68-72F type dews. Just saw a bunch of low 60s inland sites and that actually seemed not all that bad by CT summer standards. Its not dry Chamber for sure, it’s that first stage of muggy on the news humidity graphics, lol. BOS at 68F like up here for dews, that’s humid.
  14. Dews aren’t impressive at all down there. It’s 85/62 at IJD... 85/68 up here at MVL (rain yesterday with fog all night jacked up our humidity). BDL is 88/62, ORH 84/61. Not screaming humid but I’m not down there.
  15. Woke up to that without A/C after 93F yesterday, ha. Outside was 62F. Very thankful for the nights lately. I might turn the A/C on a little in that 4-8pm range but then it’s usually cooler outside by 9pm where it seems silly to have it blasting air when the windows and deck doors could be open.
  16. It was impressive how heavy the rain was in those today. Just torrential huge rain drops. Was very happy to see almost a half inch in the gauge when I got home. Ground sucked that up real fast.
  17. BTV and BML pulled 94s today. PWM, IZG, MVL, CON with 93s. Just an absolute torching of NNE sites lately.
  18. High of 93F at MVL, wow. The second time this year and in the decade I’ve lived here I’ve never seen it go above 92F, and we’ve had a summer or two without even hitting 90F. Now down to 70/64, a pleasant evening.
  19. Picked up 0.42” of much needed water at home.
  20. Just got smoked by a storm on an evening hike with the dog.... we were around 2,900ft when it hit. It was literally like a black wall of water and it was classic downburst style with some high gusts in the middle of the rain shaft. I'd estimate 40-50mph gusts in about a 30-second pulse of wind inside what felt like a bucket of water getting poured out of the sky... to the point that you had to turn away from the wind as it was driving the massive rain drops into you sideways. Some pretty terrifyingly loud thunder too. Wasn't expecting that, but completely soaked through and pouring water out of my shoes. Amazing how fast everything can go from bone dry to a torrent of muddy water flowing down every little nook and cranny on a mountain
  21. I like it... the novelty of big NNE heat during the day but luckily the nights have been in the 40s and 50s. It’s fun to have high heat in the middle of the afternoon but then it’s 70F and cooling fast by 9pm. I think days of like 86/70 would be much worse and piss me off because it’s pedestrian daytime heat and then doesn’t cool off at night, ha.
  22. Well we do have an official heat wave up here at MVL, with at least 92F... last 4 days have been 88/45, 91/48, 91/53, 92/57. This is pretty wild when you couple it with the May heat. Other heat wave locations include: BTV, BML (another 93F today!), HIE, IZG (3 days of 93-94F), LEB, CAR, and I’m sure there’s more. Seems most of the NNE ASOS site’s hit the 3 day heatwave designation and might get another one or two to go.
  23. Yeah we’ve leveled off at 88-91F... it’s just bouncing around in that range on all the 5-min obs for the past 2 hours. We got to 90F early but seems like we won’t be going much higher...maybe sneak in a 92F or so? Definitely hotter by a couple degrees deeper into Maine as the 850s alluded to.
  24. Can see the storm cooled air in C.NH with a couple 82s... surrounded by upper 80s and low 90s on pretty much all sides. Some pretty hot observations for 17z.
  25. 91/59 here. This might be the hottest day yet. Maybe rival the 93F from May. HIE at 90/58. Another mountain valley scorcher.
