Getting darker earlier and earlier... shadows creeping in on the east slopes of the hills a lot sooner.

Noticing around my place that leaves just seem to be dropping. Not great color but just falling to the ground. Wonder if 7 hours sub-freezing last night and the same the night before has just caused them to say we are done, time to fall. “No rain in three weeks, now nights in the 20s, pack it in boys, we’re done. Try again next year.”

Day 7-10 QPF maps, that's all the needs to be said. I still think you're going to doubt any rainfall coming up though, regardless of prog or day. Shook but with reason.

We know you won't believe it until it's actually happening. Even if a 24 hour prog has you getting half a foot of water, ha.

Very frosty again at 30F. Looks like it was 28F at 3am but OVC rolled in and temps rose a couple degrees after that.

Yup, that's what I was checking out. There are some cut lines in there, narrow ski width shots that seem to drop straight down. It's steep in there, fun to wander around in. The snow depth gets to like 8-10 feet in there during the solid winters.

I was up wandering around today with the dog in the higher elevation rain forest. Even without much rain in 3 weeks it still seemed as lush as ever. Stein has trouble surviving up here. I guess averaging 80" of precipitation a year will cause the thick moss blanket found up high. Like walking on a carpet.

I had never really thought of it until you guys mentioned it here, but that’s the slight burning smell I get when I fire it up in the fall. I always worried something was wrong lol. I bumped my set point up to 62F for my wife, we might get it tonight.

I picture you selling your new house to move to the same elevation down the road but in a slightly more protected area... wife asks “Why are we moving only two miles away, we just got here?” “We need to keep our snowfall but get a few more degrees colder at night when the stars are out.”

Just put a station down on RT 2 there. I bet that down at the bottom of your hill is 5-7F colder, ha.

I’ll actually agree. I hiked with shorts but had under armor base layer and a few other layers I can drop on way up and put back on up top. Wish I had some gloves though, I could see my breath and the dogs breath up there in the shadows above 3kft this afternoon.

Ha tell that to the garden. My climate is all a mirage, fake cold, fake snow .

No need to pay for the extra heat. The only thing it does is make it less likely my car starts in the morning when it’s -27F instead of -17F. Just enjoy the snow. Same at the base of the ski area... the flowers here in the base area at 1500ft actually still look pretty good. Our garden in town is just straight smoked and falling over.

Yeah, I mean look at these dews right now. This is a legit dry and cold air mass. Anyone who can stay relatively calm tonight is going to get quite cold. Maple Hollow should do well, ha.

If we move, that's where we'll likely have to go due to housing prices now. Most of my friends who purchased houses are out in that Hyde Park, Eden, to Elmore Pond axis. That's a snowy little spot there in the gap of the Greens. A co-worker got 5" last May 9th in Hyde Park... that's stuff you wouldn't get if you bought next to BTV, ha.

52/25 With these dews and the high pressure overhead, tonight should be very cold given what happened this morning. There's no surface moisture to stop it.

Looks like Montpelier/MPV hitting 28F is a new record low, beating the 29F from 1959.

Looks like the 12z official is 26F for MVL... that isn’t even close to what models had yesterday for this morning there. Most had us hanging around freezing. NWS went with frost advisories that looked good based on yesterday’s models, but then woke up to all the reporting stations below freezing except BTV. Even 34F at that warm airport spot is impressive.

Wonder how much the dry surface plays into it. No fog to stop the free-fall. The dews just kept dropping too...even this morning there was still decent T/Td spread. Normally you get like 32/30 you think it’s about maxed out, but then it just keeps going to 27/24. I never see MVL dew drop 6 degrees after midnight on a rad night.

Agreed, nice to see a September cold night over-perform and to have a legit cool shot. After this we can Indian Summer for a while.
