Eh, the growing season has ended in a lot of counties in New England the past 5 days per the NWS, with frost in another tier. BDL with 36F then 34F then 33F is pretty impressive for the third week of September. IJD with back to back sub-32F hard freezes. CON and MPV with 3 straight record lows. This was a pretty solid cold shot for a good chunk of New England.

28F, some light fog too. Might even be a hint of rime ice on the trees or it’s just my eyes playing tricks.

I’m sure they can be adjusted but honestly, I’m pretty sure those bindings would be on the indemnified list...meaning no shop will adjust them. Every binding manufacture puts out a list of binding models each year that are indemnified and insurance companies of shops/ski areas won’t touch those for liability issues. Shops typically take it very seriously. You can certainly still make the choice to ski them, but no one will work on them (ie adjust them for you). It may be time for new equipment. Look at fall ski swaps (though who knows how those happen in COVID times) for used equipment, or I bet there are still a decent amount of places sitting on used demo equipment from last year that they couldn’t unload at the end of last winter because of COVID closures during that normal sale time in the late spring. For example at Stowe you often can get used demo skis for $150-$250 with bindings... when that gear new is like $700+ set ups. Here’s a quick run down on indemnified bindings: Each season the ski industry releases a list of “indemnified bindings” by manufacturers. This means there are actually bindings each year that, according to the manufacturers, cannot be skied anymore due to safety issues. Bindings simply wear out.

People have been coming all summer without following the guidance, not sure why it would change this winter to be honest. Weekends have been jamming around here.

That’s surprising to me... I’d think the wave lengths are more stable in the warm season. I’m not sure if I know what I mean, ha, but just seems like summer patterns like WAR are more stable week to week than cold season when it seems like you seem to be alternating trough/ridging much more frequently.

Great time for it, might be a little past Peak depending on how far north you go but I like that slightly past peak look when there isn’t a green tree in sight besides the spruces.

So crazy how much the ground vegetation just got smoked the past few days. From full green to like freezer burn. Still green underneath in spots but can easily see the parts hit with the hard frost. Immediately done for the year for all the ground cover.

That’s awesome! What a beast to come face to face with. That’s a beauty and looks pretty free of ticks there given how uniform the coat looks. I saw one moose three times this summer, ha, and it was a young bull with only like 6-8” antlers. In fact that same moose just wandered through the ski area base plaza last week.

Yeah a stunner. Dendrite’s chicks strutting around like men in business suites. 64/26 up here... just about a 40-degree diurnal swing.

Yeah you can do it yourself if you feel confident, but if your skis and bindings are older I would highly recommend taking it to a shop to get the bindings fitted and tested. Like I’d run mine through a machine to test the release values of the toe and heal to make sure the bindings release properly and that’s standard in the industry. You’d be surprised how many bindings fail after several years...but again it’s all on the consumer and what they want to do. If you want to save $30 also factor in the cost of blowing out your knee/ACL or breaking your leg if the binding pre-releases too early, or it doesn’t release under torque when it should. Ski resorts see it all the time, Dad tried to adjust the bindings for each kid but didn’t nail it and now Little Timmy is in crutches because Dad forgot to adjust the DIN and the skis didn’t release...and it turns out the bindings were cranked so much they wouldn’t have come off Timmy’s feet even if he got hit by a bus. Another suggestion I’d have is never buy ski boots without trying them on. If you try them on somewhere and know it fits then buy it online cheaper, sure, but I personally would never just buy a pair without putting them on my foot.

Damn dude I’m sorry. That’s the toughest thing to do. Feeling for ya. My last black lab hit me far harder than any human death so far in my life.

Hard to hate this weather... what a fall vibe for the last week. Just bluebird days and crisp nights. New England as it should be.

Actually in line with CON, it looks like MPV has set 3 straight record lows as well up here. Their POR is only back to like 1950 or so I think, but still pretty solid to put up 3 in a row. Looks like record lows today were SLK, MSS, PBG, and MPV in the BTV warning area.

Both the GEFS and the EPS like the time around early October for the next cool shot. EPS doesn't go out far enough, but if you extrapolated to Day 11-12 it probably is pretty similar. At least a signal for another trough in the eastern half of the US.

That's really solid. You love to see that these days.

Yeah down there maybe, didn’t see any effects up here but we also got at least a foot of rain this summer. Dry Septembers aren’t all that uncommon...this is record level but in terms of vegetation I think they are used to a drying trend this time of year. Its just led to some great cold nights and high diurnal ranges under sunshine, fantastic side effects lol.

Ha I love Stein. Great weather for outdoors and gets us a few more degrees at night. Grasses still green when they aren’t white in the morning. Let’s go Stein Diego. I don’t know when the last time I had to stay inside when I wanted to go hiking or take the dog for a loop in the fields. It’s awesome.

They are just falling off. 4 out of the last 6 mornings have been 32F or lower here, starting with the morning of the 15th. And 3 of those into the 20s for like 6-7 hours at a time. The vegetation has to be so confused. Add in practically no rain for 3 weeks (0.35” since 9/1)...the trees are like we give up, see ya next year.

Damn. The nearest PWS at the bottom of the Stowe Country Club hit 24F. Optimal spot at the bottom of several fairways in a backyard.

28F with freezing fog. Another white lawn of frost.

35F at 10pm, another hard freeze incoming. Tomorrow should mark the 4th morning in the last week of 32F or lower. That’s pretty solid even for here at this time of year.
