  1. Yeah. It's up there. The irony is that last year we got smoked by an upslope event Nov 2-3 and I had 10" in my yard. It was the only storm all winter to add 10" depth in one go of it last season in the village. We were laughing today how about much fun everyone was having with this snow, but thinking back to the fact that even the local valleys got smoked last year in a cold storm. It's nothing unusual for right now, but we do like seeing it.
  2. I'd disagree (shocking, ha)... but to me it's very much a cold season precipitation type vs. hail. I think it stands out more this time of year, but in the land of squalls, FROPAs, etc we do see graupel at times all season long. I mean if I woke up to a couple tenths of wind-blown dippin' dots on the windshield, I'd know it precipitated and it was frozen. Often see in more unstable upslope events that those small white balls can make up a decent amount of the accumulation. I do get this time of year it seems borderline to call it "snow" accumulation. But it is included at other times of the season on the other hand.
  3. Those fake heating bills from the fake cold of course.
  4. That's down low on the Auto Toll Road that's open late June through Columbus Day. That's a little below the Mountain Chapel on the road where they do weddings and small Sunday services.
  5. First snow magic today. What a beautiful snowfall in the higher terrain. Only a coating at home that since melted but 1,300ft and up is winter right now.
  6. These "surprise" snows will never ever get old. Sure there were signals for it to be decent (in fact models did have some heavier QPF bullseyes nearby) but you sort of toss that stuff for a lighter fare event. I don't know, there was nothing that said it would rip snow for like 4-5 hours straight of 1"/hr or even more at times at higher elevations. I figured it would be like yesterday where one squall comes through and whitens stuff up, but not the consistent barrage. I love snowfall like this so much more than the events you track for like a week straight, stressing over model runs, ha. Just stuff where you think a dusting to an inch but it turns into an actual event.
  7. That was a nice squall episode today. Felt great to wander in real snow. Beautiful evening in the higher ground. 4-6” was what I found but didn’t go above about 2,800ft.
  8. Awesome to see the NH crew getting it now!
  9. Came home to get the dog to go back up for a walk, sun coming out now. Plastered white. Even had a white slush coating at 750ft at hone.
  10. 2” sloppy wet final at 1500ft. Had to be easily 1/3” or more water.
  11. Scheduled for the 19th. It's usually pretty tight though. This looks nice but does zero towards getting open, ha.
  12. This is pretty awesome. Just starting this round and it is absolutely nuking outside. 2.5" last 2 hours up high. 6" past 24 hours on the snow cam. I'll try to make this video public on FB.... https://www.facebook.com/scott.braaten.35/videos/411423627194364
  13. I believe they used that? Is that one from like Oregon State or something?
  14. Snow picking up again. Lookout Snow Cam near 3” since 7am, 4” in last 24 hours. We’ve been melting as much as its snowing at 1500ft. But next burst moving in so we’ll see. About an inch at this level.
  15. Models had the last wave around late morning, I bet that's what's showing up in NNY now.
  16. Agreed, it’s got good deep layer flow from the lakes and decent upper air support to generate lift outside of terrain… it’s one of the many combo light events we get all winter. The upper level cold pool definitely helping lower snow levels too.
  17. Shutting down RT 108 through the Notch.
  18. It is absolutely nuking silver dollars. Road has snow/slush above 1300ft. This is great.
  19. Winter coming down in elevation. 1500ft looking real nice and snowing.
  20. First light snow obs at the ASOS of the season. METAR KMVL 031015Z AUTO 00000KT 5SM -SN BR SCT003 OVC028 01/00 A3013 It is snowing nicely at the mountain. Bet 1500ft is white when I get there shortly.
  21. Snowing nicely up there this morning on the streamer. Heavier squalls just north.
  22. Yeah for sure, at least the topographic aspect makes it easier to see as those maps generally just start to mirror elevation… though as we know sometimes applying the same amounts to similar elevations isn’t always the correct/actual outcome. Up in NNE, 1000ft in one place could be more/less snowy than another 1000ft place… but often these interpolations assume they are around the same snowfall.
  23. 00z HRRR like’s JSpin’s neighborhood tomorrow.
