  1. Ha good catch, I was thinking airport for some reason. Even that mile though... everyone would be out on the Redstone campus green, sunning themselves in the first warmth of April or May. As freshmen we all made the mistake of heading down to the lake thinking it would be better to hang out there in the warmth than up on campus. Get down to North Beach and it's like 20-30 degrees colder with a wind off the 40 degree water. Back into the car and back up the hill to UVM where it was warm and outside the cold sink bubble of the water.
  2. Finally getting a little accumulation down at 750ft on the cars. The difference between here and 1500ft is crazy right now. Almost like blizzard conditions it looks like from a text from my friend up there. Heavy snow moving sideways with blowing and drifting.
  3. Yeah I can tell you those green trees in the city streets haven’t sniffed freezing yet along the water and urban heat. Probably like 38F has been the coldest there, barely under 40F.
  4. They’ll give you a run for your money on first freeze by the warm lake and urban environment. You might even beat the waterfront there. Then in the spring when everyone else is leaf out that area is still chilled as icebergs float in the harbor lol. Learn the hard way at UVM how much lag BTV downtown has because of that lake. 75F in April at UVM and 46F at the waterfront three miles away.
  5. That view looks like it couldn’t be any further from what I experienced all day today… and only like 15-20 miles away as the crow flies. Meanwhile the plows are out on the other side of Chittenden County. BTV is in another world, it’s so awesome the local variation.
  6. Snowing where it should be snowing in mid-November.
  7. Another 1” in 45 minutes up high. 30dbz raking the ridge, it has to be wild up there right now. Not doing much in town but crushing at the mountain. Orographic lift, ha.
  8. Had to drive back up to drop off a friend who needed a ride from town to the hill. Big changes since it got dark with accumulating snow down to 1,000ft and roadway is pretty sketchy above 1200ft. Definitely a much better snow now in the base area. Still white cat paws down in town. It’s technically snow but white rain description seems appropriate. Radar looks locked in. Snow Cam shows dumpage with 6" since 7am.
  9. Yeah our 3,000ft snow cam had 2” last night, flipped at 7am and has had 5” more since then. Matches the general 6-8” I was finding. Officially it’s a 7” so far for Mansfield upper mountain.
  10. Frozen and love it. Just full on winter storm conditions all afternoon above 1,800ft. Big difference between 1500-1800ft here. Goes from sloppy wet 1-2” to like 5-7” in a short distance in that elevation zone. Pretty uniform 6-8” above 2000ft.
  11. 1.5” past hour with those yellow echoes.
  12. It gets very snowy in a hurry at 1800ft.
  13. Yeah it looked real nice at elevation this morning. Nothing below 1300ft here and 1-2 inches above that.
  14. White rain here. Loud, sounds frozen. Flood lights show fast moving frozen cores falling. Leads me to believe it’s snowing up the road. About as expected with this WAA precip. BTV radar suggests above 1500-1700ft it’s a more pure snow. It usually takes up to 1,000 vertical feet to go from full, cold snowflake to melted rain drop… the radar signature from bright banding and what’s falling here confirm a 1500ft+ snow level for accumulation.
  15. We are a very lucky society/civilization to be honest. Spoiled. But that's a good thing. Just need to keep it all in perspective sometimes. America is a great place, not without its faults, but a place where the spoils of capitalism/excess/innovation all intersect. There will be ups and downs on that journey though for sure.
  16. I think radar is more bark than bite with this one. 1-2" possible above 1,500ft... coating to 1" below IMO. A widespread 0.07-0.20" QPF type event.
  17. Saw this video on FB from Bretton Woods today... what a scene. Another Alex in BW? Definitely had a good snow event yesterday there. Probably one of the snowiest looks I've seen from any inhabited area in New England from that event. https://www.facebook.com/afalk/videos/468840374562506
  18. Seems dry at the surface still but I see flakes on the Snow Cam at 3,000ft. So it’s moistening up, looks like it just started up high.
  19. 18z EURO continuing to signal upslope event tomorrow afternoon and evening.
  20. 18z HRRR had a good shot of water along the Northern Spine.
  21. BTV AFD snippet: As these westerly winds increase, upslope snow will ramp up with favorable snow growth over the mountains. Froude numbers will generally be in the 0.8 to 1 range supporting slow moving flow and heavy upslope snow along the spine of the mountains. These areas may see storm totals in the range of six to nine inches of snowfall through Tuesday morning.
  22. Need to get above 2000ft to get the better pasting.
  23. I want to say that cam is around 3200ft? I'd have to check but it's a bit above 3,000ft. The 12z EURO continued with a strong orographic signal for the 24-hour period from 15z Mon until 15z Tues. Something is going to happen in that time frame, just trying to figure out how robust. Deep layer NW flow from the surface up through 700mb and beyond during that period. The trajectory is pretty much perfect for the N.Greens.
