Watching the snowmaking plumes on the ridge get backlit by the setting sun yesterday evening. Looks like at least until the 14th or 15th of November now before any real snowmaking progress can be made. Looks like the last true mild period before colder regimes settle in.

Out for the afternoon meander in the sun. The cold dark side still very snowy. Will do a hike over there on the winter side tomorrow.

2:30pm and still frost in the shadows from this morning despite temps in town in the upper 40s. I don’t get it lol.

I was surprised to see the 8am obs are the coldest yet… 21F at MVL, down 2F between 7-8am. Crazy how late the sun is coming up now. 8am is already like 4 hours past the min in mid-summer lol. Now you still drop through the 12z obs.

A 6-10F spread already between higher elevations and the basin bottoms on some PWS. 34F at 1,700ft and 25F at 750ft.

26F and frosty already. Freezing fog seems like it can’t be far away.

I tell her to do a trick and she just sits there. Anyway, I think the daylight will finally make these after work walks impossible without headlamp after the time change on Sunday. Was a good run from March to November of daylight after work hours.

Crisp evening already but felt pretty nice in the last light of the day up at Spruce Peak. Upper 20s with a decent NW breeze but overall not bad.

This time of year produces some wild differences with the sun angle so low. Anything north/east facing stays midwinter but west/south can burn off. Pina coladas on the south facing hills up past 3000ft snow free… Meanwhile east and north aspects have snow down to like 1000ft. The Stowe side of Mansfield is akin to the north side of your house under the roof, ha. Easy to see why they put the trails over there originally.

I mean you gotta if you want to compete with your neighbor’s snow depths in April/May . What that did remind me of is that’s how Stowe’s terrain on Mansfield can be but on a huge scale… NE aspects with something blocking direct sun above. It’s like a much smaller scale of the Mansfield Stake, doesn’t see direct sunlight for like 5 months lol.

Luckily from a distance 3-6 inches look the same as 3-6 feet… it’s all just white .

Looks like you found the best snow preservation spot you could find, ha… north/east side of house? The early season coatings are great times to see the cold/shady spots.

Have some light snow falling again at the mountain. Just some weak radar returns and just lazy flakes.

We didn't drop much here last night. 27F with the thickest freezing fog I've seen in a while. All trees in the valley looked rimed up and frosty. It was evident that the precipitation yesterday and wet snow lurking around and just up the hillsides we fogged out almost immediately last night. It was weird but a very thick fog and inversion formed right at the accumulation line leftover from yesterday. It's still pea soup down in town at 30F, while its bright sunshine up at 1,500ft ha.

As of 635 PM EDT Wednesday...Overall fcst in good shape this evening with crnt radar showing a small pocket of enhanced precip weakening acrs eastern Chittenden and Addison Counties. Crnt fcst of chc pops for this seems reasonable, based on limited areal coverage. Otherwise, enjoyed the pics into the office today from PF, indicating snow accumulations of around 2 inches at 1,500 feet and near 6 inches at 3,300 feet on the east side of Mansfield. Tonight fcst concerns wl be clouds and impacts on temps. IR satl imagery shows some breaks in the overcast acrs portions of the area, so anticipate partly cloudy skies, but with some clouds/winds not expecting temps to completely bottom out. Thinking near 20F SLK/NEK to near 30F Champlain Valley with mid/upper teens at summits (Whiteface Summit already 21F), good for the snow making operations at nearby resorts. All covered well.
