  1. Some folks saying they saw flurries or something frozen this morning in the valley around here. I wasn’t up yet. MVL ASOS reported “unknown precipitation” at 36F so it was very close. METAR KMVL 101050Z AUTO 00000KT 10SM UP BKN004 OVC033 02/01 A3014 RMK P0001
  2. We had a brief period of snow on the upper mountain this morning from WAA. Still snow covered around the top of the Gondola at 32F. Definitely could be snow in the Whites.
  3. Nice, a lot of folks ending their growing season.
  4. Do you ever get frosts? Like sure you get below freezing, but do you wake up to hard white frozen grass? Frosts aren’t really a hill top thing…that condensing, temp meets dew point at 100% RH is not something the mid-slopes up here see at night very often at any time of year. The atmosphere is mixed and can’t stay calm long enough to condense. The whole idea of a frost advisory is to protect growing vegetation… and historically agriculture is more of a valley thing where frosts happen. To be honest, as weird as it is there’s probably an elevation around my area at like 1700ft that’s the absolute last place to see 32F or lower temperatures. It freezes on the upper mountain in CAA, and then at night it’ll freeze from 1500ft and down. But there’s absolutely a mid-slope zone that’s the last place to hit 32F on the year. That’s probably like your spot. Isn’t high enough to get into the sub-freezing zone aloft during early season cold shots, and also won’t radiate during those early season troughs.
  5. Even late this afternoon, snow was hanging around. It felt great to be cold again. Hats, gloves. Cold enough that snow lasted throughout the day. Wind chills in the teens. Winter. Fun to get back up and walk around among snow and ice. The crunch underfoot.
  6. Snow cover begins around 2,400ft even after sunshine today. It’s cold!
  7. Yeah it's all there. So are the people, but they are getting one helluva show right now.
  8. Mansfield Magic returned with the orographic heavier snow showers this morning. It's definitely captivated the entire town on the holiday weekend Saturday. Everyone pointing, is that snow?!
  9. It was snowing all the way down through 1500ft. Heard it got as low as the Matterhorn around 1,000ft. Flakes flying.
  10. Had first snow to the base area this morning. No accumulation down low but healthy flakes. It’s white up higher. Picnic tables coated per Gondi staff.
  11. That’s awesome. Bucket list place for sure. Props!
  12. It's fun to have the mild weather when the entire landscape looks like it's on fire. Just orange and red as far as the eye can see, on every hillside and down into the valleys. This morning had that direct sunlight on the east slope of Mansfield, while the mid-slope inversion had the fog bank cutting the hill in half.
  13. I want it back ha. We all channel our inner Fisher.
  14. Ah gotcha I thought it was in like a record high type of wow.
  15. Is that real impressive? It’s been like mid/upper-70s to the Canadian border at times this week. Figured BDL would be like 85F+ haha. Only got to 70F today though. Went downhill after 1-2pm.
  16. We just got hit with another squall line and even thunder/lightning that put the Gondolas on hold. 0.44” at the mountain today. Looks like 0.25-0.40” in town. Had some nice sun late morning and early afternoon for the line came through.
  17. Yeah it’s likely he just doesn’t like winter and it really has nothing to do with culture. I mean we’ve seen it on this forum… how many on here hated heat, warmth, etc 10-15 years ago and now embrace it? Even folks who like big snowstorms on here saying they don’t know if they enjoy winter because it’s months of dark dreary weather hoping you get a big one. His personal preferences might have changed a bit too since he got in the field.
  18. Cloudy this morning for like the first time in a week. Bummer, the sunshine streak is ovah. Some rain showers too.
  19. Yeah that’s how I feel. Would rather go from a fantastic week like this last one of 60s and 70s every day with sun straight to snow… but that’s not how it works. Anything to avoid highs in the 40-55F range. At least if it’s going to be like that it better be sunny ha.
  20. Time for fantasy land snows… All weenie fodder aside, a steady diet of troughs moving through in the long range is the pattern for early season snows as we go into late October. Just keep the troughs of sub-0C 850 air coming and the mountains/hills might get lucky at some point if something can dig/amplify a bit. Some H6-H7 mid-level Magic punching the DGZ. Some good soundings around to remind you winter is coming.
  21. This evening’s dog walk on Spruce.
  22. Not going to lie, I want some clouds and more moody weather for foliage photography . The full sun at times seems to wash out the colors at the midday light but it’s still looking ridiculous. The after work hikes with lower sun angle makes it hard to not stop and stare every few minutes. I think some cloudy vibes tomorrow, maybe some fog/mid-slope clouds too, will really bring out the saturation in the leaves. However, for weather to get outside and hike and enjoy this time of year… that was one ridiculous sunny stretch we just had from last weekend through today. And no “double peak” where you get some species flaming out while others are still green. It’s all going at the same time.
  23. Ha must’ve timed it just right. Looks legit.
  24. You should post more. Logic and reasoning is an underrated human trait. 75/43 currently up here. Glorious.
