  1. I do think it’s a bit behind some years. But it always seems to a good show when it arrives. The length of time with great color does factor into the season more when the peak is usually good regardless. Also, today sucked wx wise, ha. Very dark, small droplet sheet rains on NNW winds. Just hour after hour of moderate j.10-.20”/hr breezy rains up at work. No outdoor time, miserable to just be walking around.
  2. Great comparisons… seems pretty normal all the sudden. One year in past 15 with “low color” down into CT.
  3. How can you say it’s ugly when it hasn’t happened? I’m confused. I don’t think there’s any spin except it seems early to cancel the foliage season. We are usually October 10-20 for peak up here so we’ll see.
  4. Is that what he’s alluding too? I thought I missed an inside joke or something about the foliage on September 19.
  5. A bit early in the evening to be drunk posting? The leaves do get more vibrant with each IPA though.
  6. This would’ve been a good one in the winter, ha. Mountain got crushed today in upslope. I’ve got around 0.50” in the Stratus in town (2-day total of only ~0.80”)… but the base of the ski area picked up three times the amount. Look at that gradient over a few miles. Like 12 hours straight of 2x to 3x the rainfall rate up at the ski area compared to town. In winter it’s like cleaning 16” off the car and driving 7 minutes to find 5” in town, lol.
  7. Must be quite the difference between the Op and it’s Ensemble.
  8. Brutal day today with wind-whipped upslope rain and mid-50s. Base of ski area only had 0.27” yesterday but over 1.00” so far today on NW flow. Very cold-season like evolution… miss the first round to the east and then get it on the cyclonic backside flow.
  9. The entire radar loop from afternoon through this evening looks like a cold season storm. Still convective at times, but this phasing of the upper level energies is reminiscent of colder times. Northern and southern streams phasing across New England, dynamic shortwaves.
  10. We’ve had half that rainfall. Right on the gradient all day… 0.35” here, 0.22” base of ski area, 0.10” on west side of Mansfield.
  11. That stuff is blossoming between NYC and POU… even some recent lightning… responding to the dynamics aloft.
  12. Max of 60F so far today with a lot of misery mist and not much actual rainfall. Dark day. Currently 59F.
  13. The sun setting at the same time all year at like 6pm must be boring AF. Just 6am to 6pm all the time. I’m not a fan of it being dark at 4pm but gladly take the trade off of light at 4:30am to 8:30pm in the summer.
  14. Yeah I need that 9pm light to still be outside in summer. Coming down from a hike in ambient light at 9-9:30pm is always fun. The extra time outside after work day is key to me.
  15. 29.99" here during that time frame... September has been dry up in NW NE, only 2" so far. A meh 4"/month rate after the last 3 months . September rain swath to the S/E of here.
  16. Miss the hurricane now. We didn’t have the reverse, reverse psychs and congrats others, congrats me, I’ll root for you but hope it’s me, etc for rainfall discussions for the past week.
  17. @MaineJayhawk had an incredible photo of a wave exploding up a cliff in Acadia. Sorry if I’m blowing up your spot, but the power of nature is awesome.
  18. Today was definitely a breeze day than normal. Gusts to 40mph at the bottom of Mansfield at work, on the leeward side with ample mixing. I wasn’t expecting it to be breezy this far west. The PWS showed max sustained at 33mph and gust to 44mph.
  19. RIP to Litchfield Libations, he was a core contributor for a good stretch of time.
  20. Love how it all goes down in one direction, then flips around and goes the other way. That’s no straightline wind.
  21. 12:10pm and 64/48 at MVL. It feels like it should this time of the year all of the sudden.
  22. Dews this morning dropped into upper 40s at sunrise… now as the dew evaporates it’s back up to 54F. But that was a long stretch of 60+ dews to start September. Air is clear again finally.
