I could only find five years since 1912 that had snow falling at midnight Christmas eve and one year it ended just before midnight... 1919...snow falls from 10am 12/24 to 2am 12/25...2.8" fell... 1961...snow ends just before midnight...6" fell... 1966...snow falls from 7am 12/24 to 6am 12/25...7" fell... 1993...light snow falls from 10pm to 2am... 2002...light snow from 11:30pm to 2am changing to a mix and rain...

meh...it was still cold enough that you could not go swimming unless you are a member of the polar Bears...

in January 1962 I awoke to a heavy snow forecast on the radio...I looked out the window and the Sun was shinning...the morning of March 3rd 1960 the forecast was for snow changing to rain with moderating temperatures into the mid 30's...just the opposite happened as snow got heavier and temperatures dropped into the mid 20's...

all I had was to listen to a radio station I knew had the latest temperature reading...back in the day they had puppets doing the weather on a kids show...Officer Joe Bolton did the weather on TV...Tex Antoine was the number one watch for any weather nut at the time...

does anyone remember the cutters we got in December 2000 and 2010...there were two in 2000...12/14 and 12/17...temps maxed out at 50 and 62 respectively...12/12/2010 got one and temps maxed out at 56...heavy rain both years...cutters sometimes come first.

snow depth at the end of a storm is what we see and played in as a kid...in 2006, 26.9" was measured and ends at midnight...seven ours later the snow depth was 17" at 7am...the storm had 1.86" of le...possibly 19" of snow fell...the Jan. 2016 storm was measured at 27.5"...22 inches was on the ground at 7am...2.32" of le...23-24" probably fell...Jan. 1996 had 20.2" from 2.16 le...probably 22-23" fell...no snow depth recorded in Central in 1996-2005...Boxing day VI storm in 2010 had 20" on the ground at the end of the storm...20" was measured...1.61" of le...Feb 78 had 17.7" measured...18" on the ground at the end of the storm...1.13" of le...Feb 1983 had 2" on the ground from a previous storm...17.6" fell...19" on the ground when the storm ended...1.49" of le...Dec. 1960 had 15.2" measured...15" depth at the end of the storm...0.86" of le... you would have to go over every rain and snowfall for 1983 to get an idea when the NYC gauge went faulty...Summertime showers can be spotty and not used... but general rainfalls should be compared to other sights...

the 1983 total rainfall in NYC was suspect...at the time they thought it was at least 10% to high...They thought the gauge was broken but they did not know if and when it when haywire...for years the record was wiped clean...
