  7. the longest stretch without a 10" snowfall in Central was between 2/12/83 and 3/13/93...the other stretch of futility was from 2/69 to 1/78...there were only four winters with a 10" snowfall from the 1969-70 winter and the 1991-92 winter....4 of 23 years...one year over 50"...no others over 30"...1977-78 had two big storms...50" seasonal...1978-79 got lucky in February...29" seasonal...1982 in April...25"...1983 in February...27"
  8. nothing beats the period from March 3rd, 1960 to Feb. 4th 1961...four major blizzards and a major hurricane...these came in the middle of a long and severe 10 year drought...

  10. 1881 was a lot drier heading into the heat wave...
  11. 1932 had a colder 30 day period in NYC than 1997-98 and another year that escapes me...the late summer, fall and winter of 1931-32 is up near the top for warmth during that period... as a kid growing up and living thru the 1980's I would never have dreamed or wish cast the amount of snowy winters since 1993...not to mention the 20" storms and 50" seasons...

  13. the 1880's and 1890's still have heat records still on the books...1881's 101 degree day is second only to the 102 in 1953...1895 was the latest for the hottest temp of the year on 9/22 and the 97 degrees that day is the latest 97 degree day on record...1898 for its warmest start...

  23. there have been a few weak el nino winters with very little snow so the other indices have to cooperate...even with most of the indices favorable snowfall could be light...40" snowfall seasons were rare before the 1994...now even with record February warmth and a positive ao and nao NYC still managed to pick up above normal snowfall...all good things come to an end and a winter like 2001-02 can happen again...hopefully not this year...
  24. I got 0.38" last night and very little this afternoon...maybe 0.02"...
