I think that was the Feb 4th storm when the city banned traffic...The schools were closed for snow on Dec 12th-14th...Jan 20th...Feb 5th-7th...we had to make up those school days in July 61...

My uncle who was a cop in 1961 told me about a plane crash he had to go to on January 19th, 1961 during the JFK inaugural storm...who would want to take off in a blizzard?...it was aborted but there was four crew deaths...the airport was called Idlewild but changed to JFK after Kennedy's death...

I'm gonna look up how many plane crashes there was during a snowfall...off the top of my head was... Feb 1st 1957...plane crash in Rikers Island during a snowstorm... Dec 16th, 1960...mid air collision during snow and fog,,, Mar 22nd, 1992 LGA...

my son was five and my daughter eight...man the time flies when you're having fun...

yes the end of February and the beginning of March had near record cold twice and some snow...

Dec 1984 had a 4.8" snowfall ending as drizzle in later December between heat waves...85 and 86 had very little snow...8.6" fell in January 1987 ending as drizzle...

its funny you say that because I didn't go back to a dentist till 1977 when I had to...I was consumed with that snowfall and every other one that year...that winter was great...I had a street light across the street and a tree branch in front of my vision...I can't tell you how many times I looked at that light to see snow falling at night...

it would have felt a lot better if we got a snowstorm New Years day 1990...when your biggest snowstorm of the season comes in November it usually means the rest of the winter wasn't that good...

40 degree Decembers used to be rare...Now its normal...
