  5. I too grew up and was living in the Great NE Philly on Waldemire Drive near Red Lion Road. I just remember they kept upping snow amounts - my main source back in the day was Eliott Abrams and Accu-Weather on KYW radio. Plus like you Jim O'Brien was the guy that got me into the weather....."it's gonna rain like a hose on a flat rock" That was back in the day before weather was a major part of TV news....and the on air weather folks were almost never professional METS just personalities like Jimbo! Back then sports used to be a bigger part of news than weather. I really think ever since the Blizzard of 1996 when all of the stations covered it all day and got huge ratings they figured out how good weather can be for increased eyeballs!
  6. The biggest issue with this thread and why we MUST change the title is this was way too early and was not in fact Presidents Day in 1983 - that was 10 days later....it was a great storm. The biggest snowstorm in my life up to that point but it was not President's Day...just trying to be accurate!!
  7. I always will take sleet given a choice....remember sleet of course still accumulates and counts as snow.....just accumulates at 3:1 on average vs 10:1 - plus no one loses power!!

  13. looking at WB maps a little less in central areas and a little more toward the NE toward NYC......not a huge change either way but with potential good ratios these maps may not be that helpful anywho
  14. 12km NAM actually ticked less qpf on the North and reduced snow amounts....the "north trend" may be over....

  16. Actually a simple feat...I remember a storm where we started at 3 degrees and 2 hours later it was 25 and IP and 1 hour later 27 and ZR....it of course has nothing to do with surface temps - there are no roadblocks to warmth above the surface. One of my favorite memories was in January 1994 when I was in King of Prussia and my thermometer read 24 degrees with heavy rain - the ZR accumulated as quick as I could chop it off my car - which at the time had those pop up lights.
  17. I like a nice 12z ICON / NAM blend - really liking the ICON of late.....nice moderate hit for many esp. from Turnpike on south in my current view.
