Some of the typically colder spots like Warwick Township made it down to 50.8 degrees this morning. A nice rebound in temperatures today but still below normal levels for late August. This pattern looks like it will continue for the upcoming week with the chilliest air so far this incoming fall season arriving by mid-week. Lows by Wednesday and Thursday morning may reach the 40's in the colder lower spots across the area. Temperatures through Monday will be not too far from normal in the upper 70's to low 80's. By Tuesday and Wednesday some of the ridge stations may struggle to get out of the 60's for afternoon highs. Rain has especially northern areas has been very scarce so far in August. Our best chances of rain this week looks like Sunday night.

Some light showers are possible this morning part otherwise cloudy, and another below normal temperature day across the area. We clear up both tomorrow and Saturday before shower chances increase on Sunday. Some valley locations may reach the low 80's tomorrow and Saturday. After that we will not touch 80 degrees for the remainder of August as we have much cooler weather moving next week. Some valley locations may even reach the 40's for overnight lows next week. Some great autumnal like weather on the way. Our next rain chances are Sunday.

We saw some light rain amounts overnight and this early AM including 0.05" at both Glenmoore and East Nantmeal. Shower chances will continue both today and tomorrow with continued cooler than normal temperatures. We clear up Friday and Saturday with our temperatures rebounding to near normal before a cold front moves through on Sunday which will allow for the return of an autumnal feel in the air.

As I mentioned this morning - in fact many spots across the area stayed in the 60's all afternoon - including Atglen, East Nantmeal, Glenmoore, Nottingham and Longwood Gardens to name a few - for sure an unseasonably chilly Mid August afternoon! Below is from my station in East Nantmeal.

Most of the rain last evening missed our area to the south and east toward Philadelphia and NJ. It’s much cooler today and quite breezy. Today’s temperatures will struggle to rise much, and I suspect some of the higher ridge locations may not escape the 60's for high temperatures. Below normal temperatures continue through mid-week before we moderate to close to about normal for late August. A few sprinkles are possible today and again Wednesday night but unfortunately another dry week in our future. Most spots in Chester County have seen less than 0.10" of rain so far here in August. No impacts back here in Chester County from Hurricane Erin...but coastal flooding and beach erosion will be an issue for the Jersey Shore.

Today will be our 6th straight above normal temperature day. It will also be our last such day for at least the next week as we should see temperatures at or below normal levels much of the time. It looks like we have a good chance at finishing August with below normal temperatures. If so this would be the 4th below normal month over the first 8 months of the year. We could see some rain and thunderstorms especially this evening with the cold frontal passage. The line should move west to east across the area between 6pm and 8pm. Any storms could produce a 1/4" to 1/2" of much needed rain as we have had very little rain across the northern parts of Chester and SE Berks counties so far here in August.

Yesterday was our warmest day so far this month with a couple spots even reaching 90 degrees for the first time in August. Today may be a couple degrees cooler before again reaching well into the 80's on Sunday. We then see a front swing through on Sunday night and behind this we turn much cooler for the rest of the week with high temperatures remaining in the 70's by day and upper 50's to lower 60's by night. Slight chances of showers most days of the week with the greatest chances by Tuesday night into Wednesday.

This weekend should feature above normal temperatures and still humid before we see a nice cool down to start the new work week and that should last through much of the new work week. Sunday looks like our last above normal temperature day for at least the next week or so. There are some rain and storm chances especially across Western Chester and SE Berks Counties later this afternoon into the evening. Otherwise dry through at least mid-week.

Most folks across the north and west parts of the county saw little rain (under 0.05")....much different across other spots with West Grove 1.39" / Nottingham 2.33" / Avondale 1N 0.55" / Kennett Square 1.26" / Devault 1.70". We do have a chance at some more showers this afternoon. Mainly dry and sunny weather looks likely for the weekend. Of note most spots across Chester County have not experienced any days over 90 degrees so far here in August. The exceptions were West Chester and Devault yesterday. Most spots in the county look to have potentially their next shot at a 90-degree temperature on Sunday with highs well into the 80's. As we move through next week temperatures begin to cool back down to not far from normal levels with some higher spots seeing highs mainly in the 70's by mid-week.

Showers and thunderstorms are becoming more likely as we move toward later this afternoon and into the night. For most spots this will be our first measurable rain since August 1st. The sun returns by Friday with above normal temperatures through the weekend and then cool back to near to below normal by early in the new work week. Our best chance at what could very well be our last 90 plus day of the summer looks to be Sunday.

Yesterday was our 11th straight below normal temperature day here in East Nantmeal to start the month of August. Today we should finally see above normal temperatures and they look like they should last through the week and into the weekend. We should see temperatures in the mid to upper 80's for the rest of the work week and maybe reaching the 90's by Sunday. We have been dry so far this month so the potential shower later tomorrow into the evening will be welcomed by our many area farmers and green thumbs.
