  1. Winter weather analysis for Chester County PA. Dec-March months since 1894. Our current cycle of warming has produced 7 of the warmest winters since 2000...including the top 3. Conversely, it has also delivered 3 of the coldest winters since 2000. When will the next colder cycle start?
  2. 0.52" in coco bucket and 0.63" on tempest station
  3. Installed the Tempest on the roof at the end of March. Below is my 100 day temp comps between my 3 stations and KMQS. The Vantage Pro 2 has run consistently slightly warmer with 81 of 100 days warmer at KMQS than here in East Nantmeal. The Tempest and Ambient stations are almost perfectly synced with KMQS. The frozen tundra is turning into a dreaded "heat island" of Chester County....Could my VP2 be in need of a replacement?
  4. Quite the difference between here and Southern Chesco - only .02" here. Little bit of sun and DPs up in the upper 50's now - also seeing some fog starting to roll in off the chilly ocean down the shore in SIC
  5. A general 6" to 9" fell across the higher spots of Western Chester County with another few inches a couple of days later.
  6. Today back in 1916 began what would be the final day of the 25th largest snowstorm in Chester County history with a final total of 15.4". This however was not the largest April snowstorm on record that of course would fall to the 1894 Wet Snowstorm that resulted in 28.2" of snow. Of note much like the famous Morgantown 50" snow that fell just up the road from here in March of 1958 - the temps never fell below freezing - with the temp holding at just above freezing for the duration and yet still accumulating over 2 feet. Proving when it dumps....even with April sun agle it shall accumulate.
  7. ome light snow here in East Nantmeal in NW Chester County over the greening grass. Welcome to April and Happy Baseball Opening Day - it really should be a national holiday! Go Phillies!!!!!
  8. 0.48" earlier with another 0.35 with the FROPA - total rain today 0.83" here in NW Chester County PA
  9. We may not ever hit 90 degrees here this summer on top of the frozen tundra of NW Chesco.....but we did hit 81.0 today here (only 78.4) on the Tempest on the roof - this is the warmest for the date since 1983....but failed to top the all-time record high for the day of 84.0 set back exactly 100 years ago today here in Chester County. Also look at this incredible swing in Sea Isle City as the SW wind finally broke the marine flow - a mere 14 degree rise in 16 minutes....currently up to 80.5 here on the beaches of South Jersey
  10. Still quarantining (after my spring training trip) down the shore for the last week waiting for my negative test to go home. Has been a chilly foggy week down in SIC. Sunny today but can see the fog bank just off shore - S wind is fighting it off for now temp almost touched 60 earlier. While back in East Nantmeal low 70's
  11. Just a bit of a different day between here at the Jersey Shore and home in East Nantmeal - Ocean Water temp still running below normal with today's temps still at 43 degrees....
  12. of note all stations were at or below freezing this AM on the mesowest tri-state obs with the exception of PHL heat island - however not so with KMQS and East Nantmeal at 35.6 and 34.1 respectively.....elevation FTW
  13. Again just to keep it real with facts....that April 10-12 1894 storm featured 18 inches of snow in the York - Harrisburg area
  14. By the way from the official PA State Climatologist website - you can clearly see they also recognize the 69.8" for the month for the month of February 1899 for Coatesville, PA
  15. It's a debate that won't be answered - I just choose to follow the facts that have stood the test of time for 122 years and not let any revisionist history change it. No doubt in 1899 they looked into all this but still chose to publish this as a record and the NCDC also followed suit as my discussion with them showed. There had been many instances of big differences between many spots between PHL to West Chester to Coatesville through the years....there were even many times Philly recorded snow and Coatesville did not. We can't pick and choose. Do you think Morgantown just 7 miles from here was also wrong with there 50" of snow with a temp that never went below 32 degrees? In that case the elevation of this area played a big difference. There are so many mitigating factors that you can't go back and try and rewrite history....
  16. Heading to Phillies Spring Training on Saturday after missing last year with the virus hit.....Go Phils!
  17. I remember when I purchased (yes I spent $ on this) the handwritten obs for Coatesville from the NCDC back in 1998 (the data was not yet available pre-1948 on the internet) I actually had a conversation with the center after I had received and uploaded day by day the data into excel (every day from 1894 to 1948) but prior to uploading to my website (as I did not want to publish any data or make a claim on my website that was not validated by the NCDC). I asked them if they found the totals valid? They then went back and did some research to help corroborate the data. I actually have my notes from the call. They told me that while it was the highest reported storm total - they had gone back through the records and actually referenced and reviewed in detail the National Weather Review publication summary report for February 1899. He told me that in that national report they had noted some specific mentions of unusually high snow amounts including the near 40" of snow as far south as the weather office in Washington DC. Additionally, he mentioned that in addition to the Coatesville observation he had 50" plus snow reports from multiple spots across the mid-atlantic region including Egg Harbor City NJ (near AC), Easton MD, Warrenton VA and approaching 50" in both York PA and Kennett Square in Chester County. He mentioned that the NWS Observer for Coatesville - Mr. Gordon was a very diligent observer not omitting even one daily reported figure from January 1894 till 1930. He felt I should feel comfortable posting the data on my website - which has been up and running now since 1999. If someone new at the NCDC now tries to rewrite history it won't be due to the facts....it would only be based on feelings. But of course our society today is often inclined to favor feelings over facts. The good news is my facts don't change because someone does not believe....
