  1. Hot take: I'd rather have a snowy March than a snowy December
  2. Yeah, and it's not like it was just some abstraction that we have to accept on faith. The big synoptic storms have been there. The cold air was around.
  3. If it weren't for the lofty potential, I'd have been ok with this month locally. 5.5" of snow over a few events. Nothing legendary, but far from the worst December in recent times.
  4. I won't be satisfied until we completely eliminate blue thickness lines from this domain.
  5. I don't think there's enough involvement with the PV lobe to count as a third phasing vortmax.
  6. I enjoy a good anomalous warmth event. Not my first choice, naturally, but still interesting.
  7. A sub-960mb low over the lakes would be pretty epic.
  8. It was a sneaky Currier & Ives morning with 1.0" of pasty snow glinting in the sunlight, and mist in the glens and hollows. All a distant memory now, of course. 35/35
  9. The Gulf of Alaska shortwave is quite a bit flatter too, more reminiscent of yesterday's big runs.
  10. 0.6" new snow in central Dutchess since the changeover around 5 pm.
  11. Perfect. I was told you never want to be in the bullseye a week out.
  12. I haven't seen any flakes here (600'). Pretty nasty weather on the whole.
  13. Today would have been a great track with a little deeper and more distinct low. Hopefully the Christmas Eve system is similarly tucked.
  14. Speaking of unwanted light... it's blinding out there today with the full sun on the dry, cold snowcover. Shield-your-eyes type stuff.
  15. Seem to have leveled off at 14 for now after an impressive descent earlier in the evening. Just the slightest breeze picking back up as I watch for Geminids. Beautifully clear night... shame about the moon coming up to wash out the fainter meteors.
  16. They never do, but you got as close as one could hope for. Nice shots.
  17. 2.1" will probably do it. I was hoping for 2" all week, and I got there. Makes the lights look real nice.
  18. Well, maybe. Drying on radar looks rather final.
  19. About an inch here. Pavement is still just wet in most areas in my 'hood, but that should change pretty quickly as night goes on.
  20. Look on the bright side... it won't be this warm again until 12/25
  21. Crappy patterns make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Everyone shares equally in the misery and there are no winners and losers. Take a storm like Boxing Day, and 6 out of 10 people are disappointed, but their commiseration is smothered by the rejoicing of the other 4. *Our* suffering, comrade.
