  1. Ratios here were actually 10-14:1 per dtx (didn't finish melting mine) but the cement was warm so that's why it was so slushy
  2. I noticed that too. Spots of the pavement had very little snow/slush depth and other spots had more. Under trees had less. It also got up to 36゚ here so that helped with melting/compaction. Still a nice solid blanket of white several inches deep that should freeze up nicely tonight with temperatures going into the 20s.
  3. Really enjoyed this one. It was awesome out this morning. The snow has compacted some and fallen off the trees for the most part now but there's still plenty of white gold around. This is the 3rd snowfall since January that I could not use my snowblower because it was clogging lol. I do miss powder but these wet snows make for incredible scenes. Unlike last friday's storm where I missed the heavier amounts of snow to my north and west, this one seemed to hit the immediate metro/south burbs the hardest. I finished with 5.3" which brings my March total to 12.4" and season to 34.0". DTW had 5.2" bringing March to 13.0" and season to 34.2".
  4. We got a very drifty 2.4" Dec 23 then another 2.4" christmas eve/day. It was indeed gorgeous and perfectly timed.
  5. We have been killing it with scenery since late Jan. It's gorgeous out! Jan 22 snowstorm Jan 25 snowstorm Feb 22 ice storm Mar 3 snowstorm Mar 10 snowstorm
  6. It never gets old waking up and opening the curtains to a fresh Winter wonderland. It's really coming down and it's absolutely gorgeous outside. Nearing 4 inches already.
  7. The winters of the 1940s were terrible snow years in the lower Great Lakes, but obviously in those examples you mentioned there is missing data. I'm just curious what you mean "techniques were different" back then. At 1st order sites that measured snowfall and depth without missing data, there is nothing to show that anything was done differently back then than is done now.
  8. DTX is talking 12-1 ratios here. Will be interesting to see if that transpires
  9. There was so much carrying on about snowfall amounts falling short with the pre-Christmas storm, I kept thinking, were you guys actually out in it? Road conditions were terrible.
  10. DTX calling for 11-13:1 ratios.
  11. 2000 was a very cool and wet summer. Almost no heat.
  12. I didn't bother either. It clogged enough Jan 25. It didn't have a prayer Mar 3 haha
  13. I'm liking ratios to not be slush with this one. Chances are increasing that Detroit could see its 3rd 6" snowstorm of the winter. Go figure lol
  14. Dallas would be TORTURE for me. Absolute TORTURE
  15. I can walk down to the river (9 blocks away) and see Canada on a clear day hehe.
  16. We've done a lot better in Detroit than Chicago. Not good, but a lot better. But I'm different than most. I'd rather be on the cold side of the warm sector and have snow into May. And actually it has been snowing into late April and May in recent years lol.
  17. I certainly would not call it likely at this time, but there's an outside chance Detroit could have its 3rd 6" snowfall of the season.
  18. It is indeed far different. But Duluth is having a banner season and Chicago a bad one. Some places 45N had awfully bare stretches in mid winter. Just not a good Winter relative to climo except isolated parts of the UP and of course Minnesota.
  19. Looks like some heavy snow moved through 1-2am overnight. Woke up to a fresh 1.4". March so far is 7.1", season to date 28.7". DTW also got 1.4", so 7.8" in March and 29.0" season to date.
  20. I personally wouldn't call it the best stretch. I'd probably call the last week of Jan to first week of Feb the best stretch, followed by Christmas week. But both the Feb 22 ice storm and Mar 3 snowstorm were very fun storms.
  21. I can confirm. It was like marshmallows falling from the sky. It was a true mixed bag from rain to snow and sleet to rain back to snow back to rain lol. Picked up a very slushy 0.2" both here & DTW. The old snow cover is reduced to patches in the shade and of course lots of plow piles
