  1. Here in Carlisle at 5:00pm it is currently snowing moderately. Much of the previous hour had only light snow. It has just increased to moderate over the past 15 minutes. New snowfall during the past hour measures 0.2". That gives me 4.2" for my daily total and a storm total of 7.9". I just realized that my daily total was missing 0.3" from before I cleared the board this morning. The storm total is and has been correct. Current temp is 29.1 degrees.
  2. Well that is certainly encouraging news. I just went and checked for my exact location on pivotal and it says I get 4" more between now and overnight.
  3. At 4:00pm here in Carlisle it is snowing light to moderately. The majority of this previous hour had heavy snow. I picked up an additional 1.1" of new snow giving me a daily total of 3.7" and a storm total of 7.7". Looks like I'll definitely reach 8". I was hoping to at least tie my December storm of 10.3". We'll see what happens. If it keeps snowing throughout the night maybe I can pick up another 2.6". Congrats to all the double-digit winners out there both north and south!
  4. Latest NWS forecast has it snowing until 10:00am tomorrow morning. They slowly keep pushing back the end of the storm...lol.
  5. In Carlisle (back at 4:00) it was snowing heavily...heaviest of the entire storm thus far. During the past hour I picked up an additional 0.9". That gives me a daily total of 2.6" and a storm total of 6.6". Temp is 28.6 degrees. Looks absolutely beautiful out there!! May it continue!
  6. Heavy, heavy, heavy. YAY Update to come in about 10 minutes.
  7. Congrats! Your next post will be # 1000!! That's an amazing looking radar. I'm now back to heavy, in fact it's now the heaviest rate of the entire storm.
  8. That's incredible. I can't imagine how sleet is making its way that far inland. BTW over the past 10 minutes I've been ramping back up again and am almost approaching moderate with average flakes.
  9. At 2:00pm in Carlisle very light snow is falling. Temperature is the high of the day at 29.1 degrees. That wonderful band that passed over me during the past hour only lasted about 30 minutes and then quickly diminished to almost nothing. I picked up an additional 0.5" from that band bringing my daily total to 1.5" and my storm total to 5.2". The HRRR was showing the darkest of the bands traversing Cumberland county between 3:00 and 4:00. Here's hoping...
  10. I've been watching that really dark band on radar running over Adams and Franklin. We'll have to see what Cashtown reports. 14" is incredible. I'm only at 5.2".
  11. Same here. Heavy with large flakes...the kind that accumulates really fast. At least 1 inch per hour. Keep it 'comin
  12. Moderate to borderline heavy snow here now. Just took a measurement and another 0.6" has fallen, mostly in the past 30 minutes. Daily total= 1.0". Storm total = 4.7". Temp 28.2.
  13. HRRR projected radar indicates widespread heavy snow for the next several hours, until around 4:00, then diminishing. It's snowing a solid moderate now with larger flakes. In fact some snow bomb size flakes are beginning to come down now. It's almost approaching heavy.
  14. Well...FINALLY it has begun to snow again a steady light snow but definitely hard enough to accumulate. Let's hope it keeps getting heavier as we progress through this afternoon. Temp up to 27.7 degrees now. Edit--> intensity now nearly moderate as of 12:45pm.
  15. Still waiting for something to show up here. I've had very minor occasional sleet with a few snow flakes mixed in. I've had a total of a dusting since 9:00am. Storm total remains 4.1".
  16. Hey, a little something is falling now. A mix of sleet and snow 50/50.
  17. Just spoke to one of my weather buddies back up in northeast NJ (Bergen County). He's getting near whiteout conditions right now as the moisture pumps in off the ocean. They're expecting 24"+.
  18. haha...join the club. huge snow hole between me and you at the moment. the good stuff if just southwest of me and will miss me to my west.
  19. At 10:00am in Carlisle it has stopped snowing and nothing is falling from the sky. I picked up an additional 0.1" of snow over the past hour giving the daily total of 0.4" and storm total of 4.1" Temp 25.9 degrees.
  20. Good morning all. Earlier when I first went out to check my board and gauge I was a little surprised to see the gauge covered in a layer of ice. As best I could tell, about 0.3" of snow/sleet had fallen between midnight and 9:00am this morning. I cleared the board and melted the mess down. It looks like I got about 0.07" of freezing rain since I had 0.10" total liquid. At 9:00am the transition back to snow began. Right now it is snowing lightly with big snow bombs falling from the sky. They really look like little bombs mixed in with some finer snow. It's all very light and not barely accumulating so far. So my storm total of mainly snow and a little sleet is now 4.0". It would be great if the 12z NAM snow totals materialized out this far west. I guess we just watch and wait. Temp now 26.1 degrees with almost no wind.
  21. Here's my daily report summary from Carlisle for 1/31/21. Total snowfall = 3.7". Total Liquid Equivalent = 0.34". Snow to Liquid Ratio = 10.9 : 1. With only light snow mainly falling between 9:30pm and midnight, only an additional 0.5" was recorded over that 2.5 hr period. The measurement at 11:00pm was 3.6" (which I did not report). Have a good night all. Looking forward to seeing you again in the morning. I hope to get up by 7:30 or so with my next update. ---Stephen
  22. If we get that Miller A next weekend with another 12"+, that storm heralds in a significant arctic outbreak with the coldest air of the season. Miller A's are so much less stressful and generally much more reliably modeled since there is no secondary low to worry about. It's been a number of years since we last saw a true Miller A.
