Harrisburg is about to get squalled. It just needs to sink a tad further south to put me in it. On second look it looks like Harrisburg might only get fringed. It's dropping just south of MDT.

Snow flurries here for the past 10 minutes with some wind blowing it around. Low this morning was 28.6 but there was no frost because dew points were in the low 20's. Currently up to 38.8. It's getting darker to my west. Incoming squall??

What a crazy light and sound show this evening. I didn't even need to look at the radar as my Tempest was showing near-constant flashes of lightning out at a distance of 20 miles away. By the time the heavy rain and wind arrived there had been over 3000 strikes (within a 28-mile radius of my station). At the arrival the winds picked up dramatically and began gusting multiple times to between 40 and 45 miles per hour. Had a sustained 1-min average of 29mph (max) but plenty more 1-min's over 25. Next, the torrential rain to add on to this morning's 1.20". By the end I had picked up another 0.89" giving me a daily total of 2.09". There had been a grand total of 4,853 lightning strikes with tonight's deluge. Also, like many of you have already mentioned, continuous thunder that went on for more than 15 minutes. That was definitely noteworthy. This was the first time this year I had a daily total => 2.00". Furthermore, today was another sub-1000mb day with the pressure bottoming out at 997mb. Sandwiched in between those two events was occasional sunshine which boosted late afternoon temps up to 74 degrees. I'm looking forward to maxes back down around 60 for a while. All-in-all a pretty active spring weather day in these parts.

I'm shocked that no one reported on the snow that fell overnight! Was it super-localized? I had 0.2" with cars, grass, and rooves covered in white when I woke up this morning. Someone yesterday I think mentioned that the HRRR was showing this possibility yesterday. After no measurable in the month of March, April comes in with some. Boy, it looks and sure feels like winter this morning with wind chills down near 20. Had a low of 27.3 degrees this morning and am only up to 32.7 just before 10:00am.

Ahhh...Heat Miser, from "The Year Without A Santa Claus". One of my childhood favs including the Miser Brothers song. I always thought Snow Miser was superior...haha.

I wasn't expecting the high winds that popped up here a few hours ago. As if the 40mph gusts from the squall line weren't enough, now I've hit 50mph again for the second time in only 3 days. Gusting now frequently into the 30s with sustained mostly in the teens to low 20's. It sure has been a windy March! Another item to note is that today was another sub 1000mb pressure day with it bottoming out at 997 before the squall line pushed through.

Looks like a tornado warning very close to @Bubbler86 now as of 4:42pm.

Heads up guys, @canderson @sauss06. This narrow squall line headed your way has multiple wind gusts to 40mph and sustained 1-min average winds of 25-30 mph. It won't last very long, less than 10 minutes, but it's the first one of the season. Picked up a quick 0.25" of rainfall as well. Total here for today now 0.52".

Just got back from a nice walk with the dog. No jacket needed. Sun warm but not too warm with air temp of 58 degrees. Low this morning was 24. High a little earlier was 60. Low yesterday morning was 31. I got right around one inch of rain a few days ago. Prior to that rain I had only recorded 0.25" for the month...very dry and kind of like January moisture-wise. Even with that inch I only have 1.25" for the month so far which I'm pretty sure is at least 0.75" below average-to-date. And now, ready for a string of days like today continuing. @canderson, congrats on getting to your first shot. I was fortunate to have gotten my first dose just this past Wednesday. My wife and in-laws got their second shot 2 weeks ago so they should all be good now. In-laws are 88 and 89 so I'm really glad to finally have received mine. We see them very often as they only live 2 minutes away from us in a retirement community. I got the Pfizer, so I go back in 2 1/2 weeks for the final.

I mentioned this over the weekend. But that was with temps in the 50's and dews in the teens. Today it's low 40's with dew point hovering around -2F and 15% RH. Generally you see this more in April. I think we've only seen sub-zero dew points maybe one other time this winter? Maybe today is the lowest of the season.

At my former apartment residence about 0.25 mi. away from where I now live, I got them to let me keep my Tempest weather station set up in a nearby field with almost no obstructions in all directions. This afternoon I've recorded multiple gusts into the 40's with a peak gust of 53.8 mph back around 2:45. Sustained 1-minute averages have frequently been in the 22 to 25mph range. We love our new townhome that we moved into back in August, but, it has the worst location for a station I've ever had. My prior location was the best I ever had. The only direction that is remotely accurate for wind speed is WNW to WSW. All other directions have either homes or trees blocking. I have an integrated sensor suite so I have to keep it down at 2 meters because temperature is much more important than wind for accurate readings (IMO).

My brother-in-law lives west of Denver in Golden at 6000 feet. I'll let you know what he reports to me later today or this evening.

Very unusual day today temperature-wise. My overnight low this morning was an amazing 56.5 degrees. Right now at 9:30pm I've dropped to a new daily low of 54.9 degrees with a staggering low humidity of 25% and a dewpoint of just 22F. I had a low humidity this afternoon of just 19%. These low humidity's are much more common a month from now in mid April when temps reach the 60s or 70s with dewpoints in the 20s producing relative humidity's all the way down to 10% sometimes. Glad we are returning to much more "normal" temps for March beginning tomorrow. Upper 70's yesterday here were prematurely toasty.

You're welcome! For me the coldest temperature I ever had at my home in NJ (until 2000) was -8 which happened twice. Possibly the first time might have been 1983. I think what I remember about Christmas day 1983 is that the wind chills (which were still calculated on the old, original scale and were overdone with temps below zero), on my Heathkit 4001 showed wind chills below -50F multiple times that morning as the winds were easily gusting in to the 30s. On that day my high temperature was only +4F, the coldest daily maximum I've ever lived through. The coldest temperature I've ever experienced outdoors anywhere was -17F up in Haverhill, New Hampshire visiting a weather friend. There was no wind with that temp, thankfully.

I'm not so sure about that. If he was, I don't remember hearing about that. When I think of the potential candidates for winter and summer storms at The Weather Channel I think of John Hope for hurricanes and Paul Kocin for winter.

MDT's coldest temperature ever recorded in its history going back to 1888 was -22F on Jan 21, 1994. Many locations in northern NJ saw temps of -25 to -30 with -32F degrees recorded from Hainesville, in Sussex County, the coldest temp in the state on that day. I remember the day so well because my business partner and I were visiting the Weather Channel on that very day to discuss providing them access to our private meso-net that we founded during the early to mid 90's throughout NJ. My station in Morris County only dropped to -8F but my partner's in Sparta (again Sussex County, northwestern most county in the state) dropped to -28F. And, as excited as we were to spend the entire day there, we both were bummed that we were missing out on personally witnessing some of the coldest readings ever recorded in NJ climate history. I'm pretty sure the all-time coldest minimum temp ever recorded was from Passaic or Bergen County with -36F in 1934. Meanwhile, at TWC headquarters, located in Smyrna, a northern suburb of Atlanta, I shot video throughout the day there. Any of you aged mid 40s and older (now), probably remembers some of the all-time favorites from the best years in their history (in my opinion) which ran from around 1985 to 2000. I spent several hours with Jim Cantore as he showed us around the studios and their weather center. He was rather young back in 1994 and had a full head of hair! Others in my video included Declan Cannon, RIch Johnson, Dennis Smith, Vivian Brown, Jeanetta Jones, Coleen Wine, Mark Mancuso and several other greats whose names escape me at the moment. Their lead forecaster at that time was Stu Ostro who started with them from day 1 back in August of 1982 and was still with them as recently as a few years ago. I could go on and on but my post is already a bit long. I just enjoy reminiscing about weather extremes from the past.

I never saw it go completely over to snow before I went to bed at 1:00. And, when I woke up this morning around 8:30 there wasn't a flake of evidence anywhere on the ground, sidewalk, or mulch. Instead, I recorded 0.02" of rain before midnight and 0.19" of rain since midnight. Temp did get down to a low of 32.4 degrees back around 7:00am. All in all, a great February for snowfall and snowpack.

. One thing's for sure. This past winter has featured many more rain-to-snow transitions than snow-to-rain. A sign of a great winter.

Here in Carlisle, at 11:15pm the light rain has begun to mix with snow. Temp has been slowly dropping from 40 degrees back around 9:30 to the current 35.2 degrees. At 34 degrees and at night, snow should be able to accumulate on grassy / mulch areas. If we don't drop all the way to 32 it will be difficult to get anything to stick to sidewalks and roads. I still have patches of snow in my back yard that are a few inches in depth. These are the areas that are almost completely shaded throughout the day (at least before the coming equinox). I've recorded 0.01" of rainfall. I'll probably put my clear-vue gauge out as soon as the transition is almost complete. Perhaps that will be within the next 30 minutes. Looks like next middle of next week any beyond are looking increasingly cold and possibly snowy. That 500 map looked pretty impressive with the jet coming down from Canada and then curving under PA and moving back up to the northeast. It would seem there will be at least some tracking going on around here in the coming days. Enjoy tonight's snow regardless of how little we get.

Thanks for chiming in. Interesting that you and I had 14:1 while Cashtown was around 11:1. I know ratios can vary substantially, so no big deal. But I'm glad to see that someone else (you) did report a similar measurement.

For the few of you who melt down your snow, such as @Cashtown_Coop, I'd love to hear from you. I think you'd all be interested to know that this storm had the highest SLR of any event this season. I measured 2.8" of pure snow and it melted down to 0.20" of liquid. This produced a ratio of exactly 14 : 1. I don't think any other event this winter had a ratio that high. Most of my other events were all around 10:1. So, another anomaly from this storm.

Well, it really is ending now with just a few stray flakes coming down. But, the 15 minutes of additional accumulating somehow gave me 0.3" more snow to reach 2.8" for this storm. This gives me a seasonal total of precisely 30.0"! Yay! (lol) Temp up to 31.8 so slow melting will be starting soon. Hard to believe that just 3 days ago today's event looked like it would be practically nothing. Things don't always trend in the wrong direction leading up to an event.

Well once again I spoke too soon. The snow has restarted again and is falling heavily enough to accumulate again. Skies have darkened and temp is 31.3 degrees. All I need is 0.3" more!
