  1. Man oh man, we were already having one of the most lush and heavy growth years in I can't even remember how long with plants growing that I've never seen around here and some that are going through a flower and seed cycle that haven't in 20 years or more. This recent wet cycle has put everything into overdrive! This may actually be a bad thing as the deer have unlimited food right now and they're stronger and healthier looking than they've been in quite some time. I've also seen way more babies than I have in a long time, bears too. I already have a few friends needing new cars due to them...
  2. That's our thing now too. I need to make it sale ready because we've pretty much had it with living here. 2 years and the kid should be graduating from grad school so we need to maintain this place to keep the in state rates until at least then. Her twin will hopefully start grad school in January so that puts us at 2.5 years until we can leave. I'd rather not have to do all of this stuff under duress though as old systems fail, I kind of want to make things nice rather than just fixed. FlexSeal works pretty good in chimney leaks. Looks like 1.6" will about do it for this morning wetness, we'll see what happens with that back edge line rolling eastward if it stays together and gets us wet this afternoon. The wells ought to be refreshed now so #bringbackthedrought
  3. Yeah the last year and a half has put this old house through the wringer. 4 of us here almost all the time have overused every system in the house. I've had hvac, electrical and plumbing issues, we had to replace the septic tank and pipe from the house a few weeks ago, the washer and dryer are worn out, the tub rusted out around the drain closer thing and 2 more trees have come down wrecking the fence in the yard. That's the second tank replacement in just a few years. We got rooked by a lying, thieving, slimeball of a septic guy who did shitty work then lied to us and made it worse over the ensuing time. Don't ever use Evan's Septic for anything, Charlie is a waste of oxygen. The gutter is overflowing because the wood behind the fascia is rotting so it's sagging a little. Old... damn.
  4. Over an inch since about 5am. The water is winning Found a (new) leak in the roof and there's water about to start coming up through the basement floor from overflowing gutters on the downhill side. Blech, old houses...
  5. Another super heavy cell just slid by to my east. Nice light show but only a little bit of rain. Stations around the hill are still between .2 and .35.
  6. We were in Carmel at the supermarket when the storm rolled in, it absolutely fkn POURED between there and home. Here at the homestead it looks like ~.2 to maybe .25 but 3 miles north it's 1.2 and 4 miles north it's 1.9! What a difference in a really short distance. Woof. @Juliancolton that sux. Sorry dude. Want me to bring some cold beer tomorrow if things aren't too terrible for traveling?
  7. Months? That's encouraging I agree, it will be a disaster. But still shy of Floyd in 1999, 14+ inches along the Taconics in Putnam and southern Dutchess and 15-16 in eastern Patterson and Pawling.
  8. I had really heavy rain for a minute or 3. Just enough that the slugs will come back out to play in the garden. Is your power still out?
  9. That's why I didn't plant corn this year. I lost almost all of it close to harvest time and it frustrated the isht out of me. Thankfully this one didn't hurt but it's so wet the bugs are back in force. I drowned a couple dozen this morning.
  10. .4 it rained hard but not for very long. Every time it rains it brings the bugs. My garden was a mess this morning, filled with Japanese Beetles and slugs just munching away and shutting on and sliming everything. I literally drowned over 2 dozen beetles in a few minutes.
  11. Holy poop dudes! If you're in Westchester County get outside and watch this front roll over you. Do it now! Turning and twisting and lifting and falling and a constant low grumble you feel in your belly. Do it
  12. Those storms to the NW gonna make it down here? They look like they're drying up as they get closer but since I have car work to do in the driveway they're bound to make it here soon aren't they?
  13. You should have seen that spot 30 years ago when the glacier was a couple hundred feet thick in that bowl and spilled over the cliff down the gully above the waterfall. It was spectacular. The peak in the right background was completely covered with no rocks showing at all right down to treeline except for southerly spines in late summer where the rocks would show through. The difference is staggering to me I'm glad I saw it back when... Kind of a nice day today. Not so great for outdoor stuff but in the same way it kind of was because it's so cool out. Ehh, saving on the AC so I'll take it.
  14. Passing 1" now. It only started about a half hour ago and it's still coming down in buckets. We had to get a new septic tank 2 weeks ago so the front yard is still bare dirt. The top inch or so has turned the street brown and is starting to flow into the downhill neighbors yards. They're not gonna be happy
  15. Rain!! Big time rain. The weather guy didn't get my request I guess.
  16. ^^Yup it's ugly. I've had a whopping .07 for the week so far. While the rest of you have been inside watching it rain I've been outside watering the garden to keep the dust down.
  17. Most cars from the last 20 years are really close but I'm good with a +/-2* variance. In most of mine over that time they've barely been off if the car is moving fast enough to have some airflow behind the bumper cover or grill where they're usually located. I was hoping for some rain today but I'm starting to wonder if it's even going to happen. Enough so that I'm on the way outside to water the garden.
  18. Stayed dry again yesterday, hoping for some wetness today. Not too much but a half inch or so would be nice and not all at once please. Thanx. Two of the stations on my hill went over 100 yesterday. One has the station on the roof though so unless it's covered with snow it's always wrong, the other is well placed and it hit 101 with the others all at 98 or 99. I saw 100 or higher in a few spots on the dash yesterday too.
  19. ^^ Dude it was 100 or more in several spots around here yesterday and this morning when I started my truck the engine temp was 101.7 in the first 8 seconds when the gauge started reading indicating an air temp on that sunny spot was at least 100. Some of my plants came through yesterday ok but today it's more bleak even though I stood there misting each bed for 15 to 20 minutes. Wilt is the name of the game
