  1. I'm getting more rain than I expected. The first bit was significant at .07, now it's just light rain/drizzle.
  2. 84° with a nice light breeze. Nice day, a little too warm but I'll take it. Is it going to rain later or just another .2" tease?
  3. Nah you can keep it. On the upside, a day like that will go a long way to warming up the soil.
  4. It's turning into a really nice day. 60/34/WSW5/CLR Of course I have to spend most of the day driving people around
  5. It has been a very windy spring for sure. I'm afraid of what the fire danger could look like when it finally warms up if we don't get a few significant storms. Right now, other than this years new growth, everything is tinder dry.
  6. I was thinking the same thing, the only thing missing is precipitation. I think I'm down about 4 or 5 inches since it stopped snowing in February. The leaf out and bloom is sluggish because of it, I don't think that the persistently chilly nights are helping either. If you don't have a moisture meter for your garden this ought to be a good year to get one. Speaking of gardens... lol. I laid out about 100 feet of new hugelkultur beds along the north fence line and another about 75 sq ft in the middle of the existing garden for complimentary flowers and herbs. I'll have a crazy mix of stuff to draw pollinators and hummingbirds, have to do it because two neighbors sprayed for insects and I'm hardly seeing any bees or birds this year and almost no squirrels or chipmunks either. The fill for the new beds is almost entirely native. The base is the crown branches from all of my downed trees then for the cap I did the most thorough raking of the yard ive done in a few years. I took all of the leaves and sticks and rough brown matter and chopped it up twice with the mower then spread it and wet it. Then raked again and took the entire layer of duff and capped the brown mix. Today I went and got 400 pounds of organic topsoil that I'll mix Miracle-Gro into and use for the base for the seeds over the top of the mix. Fwiw I won't use the MG to grow food but it's great for flowers. That's the first time I've raked the yard this clean in 20 years! I have grass and wildflowers growing like mad. I think the ground needed to breathe my back hurts though...
  7. .25. It has been windy all morning so the pavement is already dry and the grass/yard will be soon too. 51/47/NE5/OVC
  8. To me that's hinting at another south and east storm. Based on this I have a feeling I'll stay mostly dry.
  9. I was a lazy gardener this year and didn't start anything early. I also only bought 3 strawberry starts and a few early lettuces, everything else is sown from seed in place.
  10. It sure did. The winter of 69/70 was a whopper in New England. That's the year they were skiing on Mt Washington straight through the summer.
  11. Yeah an hour or three at or below freezing doesn't bother me much. Pretty much everything I planted is coming up, even the seeds that were two or three years old are doing their thing. I put in a bunch of stuff today. Veggies and flowers, flowers and veggies... We should have a garden 2021 thread.
  12. That .2" the other day was pretty useless, we need a good soaker. Everything is leafing out, grass is popping and it has been windy so the soil is dry, even 4-6" down it's moist not wet.
  13. Looks like I got down to 32 this morning, it's 49 now.
  14. I saw 30 at about 6am, flurries this afternoon even this far SE. It's cold and uncomfortable out there... I don't like wind but it is doing a heckuva job of drying things out from the (huge) .2" of rain yesterday. High temp today was 47 but it sure doesn't feel like it, 44 now.
  15. It got down to 30 here on the hill this morning so 72>30 in less than 18 hours. Nice. Rain varied from ..2-.3 yesterday. The wet ground is steaming in the sun now (which is always cool to watch ) and the light wind is drying it out quickly.
  16. 68-47 in about 20 minutes but it did hit 72 this morning before the clouds really thickened up so 72 this morning to ?? tonight. Will I see a 40* drop in less than a day? It's down to 40 already.
  17. Meh, basic frontal passage but there was 4-5 minutes of pea size hail, actually it was more like caper size Sun is back out now and the temp is up 5° in the last 10 minutes.
  18. Pea sized hail, infrequent CTG, and a 21° temp drop in just a few minutes.
  19. Wind came up a little while ago, dark clouds are moving in now and the temp is down at least 10° already with little spits of moisture with the bigger gusts.
  20. This warm/cold thing is frustrating. I have so many things I want to plant and keep getting tempted during the day when it's warm but know that I should wait until these cold nights end. So, instead of planting I'm getting all sorts of yard work done, stuff that's been building up for a couple of years is getting cleaned up, cut up and buried. I'm cutting tree crown branches over 3-4" into 5 foot lengths and laying them down along the fence lines then topping with leaves, brush and soil and turning them into planting beds, I'll fill the perimeter of the yard with things like sunflowers and milkweed. Today the kids old swingset is coming down and it will be used to build some great new beds and stuff for the garden.
  21. Why am I not remembering that as a stand out storm? There were too many great ones for a few years and they've all blended together. Either that or I'm getting old
  22. I think it was more like 1.2 based on a couple of other local stations, that one was an outlier (albeit not by much). It was a very wet day. So far today it has been dry and breezy but now it's raining again.
