I've got stuff that spent all summer languishing going to seed today, pepper plants that haven't produced a pepper in weeks are filled with dozens today and some are already an inch or more long and seeds that didn't sprout all year are popping now. Weird shit...

That's why I "wasted" my 20s traveling around the continent. I went from AK to Mexico, east coast to west coast and all over in between. I've only missed 6 states, couldn't drive to one of those is the excuse though, so the quest isn't fully complete but it's close.

Considering the situation today I bet the Cannonsville and Pepacton will see HUGE increases over this.

My dryness started last fall with a bit less rain than normal and then was 25" below avg snowfall with about 6" less overall precip through the winter. Early spring was near normal but that fell apart and it stopped raining in June. I'm down way more than the official numbers show and considering the soil is powdery going down over 2 feet now I'd say yeah, it's more extreme than most folks think.

This wasn't much of a drought buster here. You'd think that 3.66" would have a great impact right? I dug a few small 4-5" deep holes in the garden to see what the soil moisture is like and they are still dry and powdery at 3-4". The local creeks and rivers were raging and the reservoirs filled up completely but that's because the bulk of this didn't get a chance to soak in. We're going to see a huge explosion of growth and greenery now because the plants that didn't die were dormant but this didn't do squat towards the long term solution here.

3.66 It's just been drizzle for the last few hours but afaik it never really stopped. Interesting radar this morning.

3.6 Dug a 4-5" deep hole in the garden and it's still dry and powdery. We need two more storms like this.
-
I'd like it to be over now. See what ya can do.

Haha with these tight gradients you guys are seeing I could only imagine the explosion of emotions it would be if it was so close between 3" and a foot of snow that you could pretty much see it. We would hear the screaming all the way up here

Same here. It has been steady between heavy mist and light rain for a while now. It's not adding up quickly, .06 in 2 hours, but the soaking is nice.
-
3.4 and still raining lightly. I'd have to go back and add it up again but I think that's more than I've had in total since about mid to late May.
-
3.3 Looks like back edge is approaching on radar
-
Just passed 3" a little while ago.

2.9 Looks like the next round ought to get me near 4. I'm surprised. LikeJulian said though, it would have been nice to get it while it would have done the garden some good. I pulled so many things because blight and disease did them in but left most of the bases because I don't turn those beds. The tomatoes started growing again and are 2-3" now and healthy as opposed to the death and destruction from before, so that's nice. Some of the other stuff, like peppers, had stopped producing but have flowers on them this morning. Just like that the plants decided not to give up.

Is there any chance that this moves through by mid afternoon?
-
Got another .5 in a half hour, up to 2.7 now with steady rain falling.
-
2.2
-
I guess I shouldn't have fallen asleep early, I missed that fun. Up to 1.7" now.
-
Up to 1" now. Yeah, I'm surprised.
-
I got another good round and *boom* up to almost .7 already. What was the garden is washing onto the patio...

It actually did rain pretty hard for 4 minutes, I timed it. The high spot in the street is already drying after steaming for a few minutes. Yeah, I see some crazy numbers and I'm sorta hoping it's not like that. So much is hardpan and it will run off pretty fast, the savior might be how slowly it's starting. This little initial burst may moisten the surface just enough to help avert disaster but if the streams and piles of debris in my yard from one shower mean anything there's a lot of shit that will move right away. I still think this will be a Dutchess/Columbia/Berkshire Counties jackpot.

Drizzle!

We'll see. It looks like it might start raining here soon but nothing so far (since early June pretty much). Hoping for excessive but not optimistic.
