The flowers around my garden are in better shape than they've been since early June. The Nasturtiums have grown to as much as 10 feet long with dozens of blooms along their length and the marigolds are going bonkers. It's great

We had a few days in October that felt about right. At $6/gal for oil I'm fine with it staying above 60 at night for a while longer. .02 today. Meh...

.2 but again, it was a gloomy, wet day with the persistent fog/drizzle/mist that soaked things more than the amount would have you think. I've never seen such a happy garden this late in the season.

Yeah it keeps getting almost to freezing in my backyard but not quite making it, the front has had thick frosts a few times. The garden is green and doing quite well, the bees are happy too. Now if I could get the birds to leave the strawberries alone so I could have some...

It was after? The memory, she ain't what she used to be  Yup Halloween was ruined here 2011 and 12.

A lot has to do with wind exposure. The tree in my front yard is already bare, it dropped 90% of it's leaves yesterday but, the trees on the other (downhill) side of the street which are well sheltered are still 80% full.

And the next day it snowed. They had to cancel trick or treating here because it was still sketchy with branches falling and blocked streets with no power.

With the price of heating oil I'd really rather see a warm winter this time around. Sorry...

And I have less than .2 today. It has been misty and dreary and with the little bit from yesterday everything is soaked but it hasn't actually rained.

It stayed above freezing, 34-37, here on the hill and I only noticed spots of frost on vehicles with nothing on the garden plants including the stuff in hanging baskets. Phew...

Yup. Cold right now is really just using heating oil unnecessarily and killing the last fresh veggies out of the garden. I'd be fine with it if it didn't get much below 40 until it's about to snow.

What I noticed driving around the Croton res yesterday is the water level is as low as it's been in years. All through this dry stretch it stayed up and now, after getting a bunch of rain, it's pretty low. Have they started the pre-winter water release already? It seems early for that.

.24. Some local stations were under .2 and the Brewster Mesonet shows .3 but most are between .2 and .28.

It rained hard but ended quickly, .24.

See below. You're still in moderate and 60 miles away I'm in severe drought. These deficits won't be erased with a few rainy days. That last map is too vague, it's more than a half inch high where I am.

Nice dense fog this morning.

The difference from southern Dutchess and far western Orange to where I am is dramatic, the colors are much less vivid and the wind on Saturday took out a lot so it's well on the way to stick season. That snow and rain I didn't get...

The best color is from Monroe then north and west. There's a noticeable difference in the intensity of the colors both in the trees and the flowers.

The line between where it was dry vs wet is pretty dramatic. I'm still parsing it out, will throw my thoughts out after this current lap of the state is done on Friday night.
