  1. Problem right now is the apparent complete stall of eye right now. The moisture feed into NO is still strong. Winds have dropped a bit, but yes, freshwater flooding doesn’t look good.
  2. This is awful and will take some time rectify no doubt
  3. Obviously if the heavy rains keep filling in around NO I’ll agree they are certainly not out of the woods from flooding rainfall
  4. Maybe. I just look at the radar and the reduction in stronger returns coming in from south of NO.
  5. From Entergy re. The outage: A company spokesperson said the storm had caused a "load imbalance to the company’s transmission and generation" and that Entergy is "making every effort to identify and rectify."
  6. It’s a “catastrophic” transmission issue so I’d say perhaps major damage to main substation and/or massive downing of high tension transmission lines.
  7. The heaviest rain is over as well. Will they have several hours of additional heavy rainfall? Sure. But the NE quadrant of the eyewall has pushed north of the city.
  8. I’m sorry. All of NO has seen the worst of the storm as the eye wall is moving away to its NW.
  9. Actually I expect, based on eye position and radar, downtown NO has indeed already seen the worst.
  10. I believe that there are automatic shut off valves for such an occurrence
  11. I saw it as well. My son pointed it out. Lol
  12. Most eyewalls contain very little lightning
  13. So for this storm, it should be fine. Who knows with today’s climate how long it will hold in the future
  14. That far outer band to the NE seems to be restricting good outflow to the NE
  15. I don’t know the exact design standards but I am certain they were designed for Cat 5+ The old levee system was flawed and everyone in the USACE knew it. anyway this is banter so we should focus on the storm for now.
  16. Katrina was 16 years and billions of dollars in flood protection ago. The levees won’t be topped. The main concern for within the protected areas are wind and rain as the pumps can only pump a certain amount of rainfall per hour
  17. Eye trying to clear out. Small dry pocket to west disappearing
  18. Actually the Great Blizzard of 1888 was worse.
  19. No it does not. Surge is water rise not including wave action
  20. It’s also relatively flat in that part of Cuba.
