  1. That soil looks mighty dry! Terrible.
  2. Interesting blog post from Mt. Washington Observatory site. Was kind of surprised at precipitation departures over last 365 days. Darn close to normal. Would have expected more significant positive departures. Certainly dry over the last 2 months over a large area. https://mountwashington.org/wildfires-in-new-england/
  3. I am hoping for this. If whatever this becomes can get linked up with an eastward moving front / upper trof we might get some needed rainfall. Timing might me good. The fact that this development has been delayed might end up being a good thing. We'll see. Thanks Walt!
  4. Just a few sprinkles earlier. Slightly dampened the ground. Not even a drop in the gauge. I was giddy this morning just to wake up and see a heavily overcast sky. It actually looked like a November morning. It felt like an early September morning with temperatures in the 60's with humidity. Clouds will be exiting soon with more bright sun and above normal temperatures to follow. Wonderful!
  5. Their high so far today is 85.2. They are currently sitting at 85.
  6. Sorry, my error. I was referencing the 85 at Duke Farms, not the Airport.
  7. Until we get a meaningful pattern change dry is going to beget dry (and warm)
  8. Sorry, this is just nasty for this time of year.
  9. No rain here. Still sitting at a trace for the month.
  10. Unbelievable. Came so far and had to have it screwed up for .01".
  11. All the parks and recreation spots around my area and up into Sussex county have Extreme Fire Danger signs posted. I live across the street from Berkshire Valley Wildlife Preserve, took a walk there yesterday and it is just bone dry and dusty. No improvement for at least a week and maybe 10 days. Terrible. I'm honestly surprised fires have not been more numerous across the state.
  12. Rule of thumb is when Alaska is BN we are AN. Working so far!
  13. When we do squeeze out a BN monthly temperature departure it is by tenths of a degree. The warmer than normal months are solidly above normal usually by 1-2 degrees+, or so it seems. I have not gone back to check it out but it certainly seems that way. One dry month I remember was November 1976, but that month was colder than normal from what I remember. I recall walking to school and freezing my young arse off in frequent Arctic outbreaks. Nov. 1976 may still stand as the driest November on record. Again, I did not go back to check. December 76 and January 77 of course were frigid but I believe both months remained on the dry side.
  14. Radar showed a few small blobs racing through my area between 4:30 and 5:00 this morning. Ground was slightly damp at 6am but rain gauge did not have even a single drop. Entered a "trace". Third "T" of the month and that is it so far.
  15. Just amazing persistence on the dry pattern continuing. Even if there are some very light totals here and there with various frontal passages the message is that the dry pattern continues for now.
  16. Thought these graphics were interesting & impressive in regards to Helene:
  17. Same here with the landscapers. Dust storm is an understatement.
  18. Thankful for that low sun angle! That and the great foliage make this warmth more tolerable.
  19. Always live and celebrate "today" because tomorrow is a guarantee for no one.
  20. That is a lot of real estate with not a cloud in sight.
