Agree it will very likely kill anything widespread severe but I'll take 1/2" rain and be happy.
-
Bummer if this becomes reality. I'm thinking not but stranger things have happened lately.
-
Funny you mention about rain water vs. potable water for lawns. I have noticed that for years but never heard anyone else mention it. I also thought perhaps is was about chlorine. A crisping lawn will green up better and faster after a rain than with a sprinkler, at least that is what I have noticed.
-
Exactly. Same for those of us with vegetable and flower gardens. Water tables and reservoir levels are not the issue, drying top soils are. Especially with peak sun angle in progress. Five to ten days with little or no rain this time of year means almost daily irrigation for those with agriculture interests. Tough on local farmers and will increase the costs to the consumer if they have to do long term steady irrigation.

A crisping lawns and wilting flowers watch is in effect. Going to take some daily watering to keep things going later this week into next. We've been lucky up until now but time is running out. If things pan out as it appears it is a classic hot and dry pattern. Humidity will be tolerable with west to northwest flow.

We'll see where it ends up but no way June is going to finish below normal that's for sure. Question is do you take the over / under on the opening bid of 3 degrees above?
-
An underwhelming .40" here.
-
Not going to see any 90+ with that pattern !

Where was this in Dec, Jan and Feb? Nice looking map. I'll take it now though, it is a very comfortable pattern heading into Summer.

Some stellar weather last few days. Brisk and cool this morning. Overnight low of 47. Slept with the windows open. Cool for the beach goers I'm sure but your time will come.

.94" rainfall overnight. Total for the week 2.72". Beautiful out this morning. Nice breeze, clear skies, temperature of 51 and DP dropping into the 40's. Rainfall for the month: 6.38".

Had 1.98" of rainfall here yesterday. Received .25" in the morning with the warm front and the rest mid afternoon into the evening. Some of the rain was very heavy at times. Everything is well watered. The rainfall did help to wash away some of the pollen dust but my deck is still tinted yellow in spots.

Hi Don- Any idea what the longest stretch is for CPK of above normal months? I would agree with you that is is hard to envision any of the next 3 months finishing below normal.

Amazing how the sensitivity analysis fluctuated for the month of May. Started out near 1 above, fell to almost normal and now we'll finish the month solidly above against the warmest normals we ever had. When will we see the next below normal month?

I happend to be awake and I felt it. Was kind of subtle but I did feel it and there was a low rumbling sound associated with it.

Deluge here with some loud booms of thunder. Briefly gusty winds, nothing noteworthy. Rain was torrential though. Have to go officially measure but looks like 1.25" in the gauge and most of that fell in about 15 min. Keeps things green and watered. I'm good on rainfall for another week.

Only due to persistent onshore flow did we miss out on a significantly warmer than normal May. It was pretty much all around us with the exception of New England, SENY and NJ. More of the over the top warmth we have seen so much of in recent years. Even so it looks like we will finish May at 1-2 degrees above normal against the warmest 30 year normals on record.

Yes, another 31 days but the gain of daylight is subtle each day now. Only 15 minutes more of evening daylight gain before we reach latest sunset. We've almost dug out the hole and it will be time to start filling it back in again...so to speak.

I agree. We are pulling slowly out of the blocked up pattern of light rain, mist, drizzle, clouds and cool temperatures. Weather this coming week will be exponentially better than last week.

Some nasty heat in FL last few days. Interesting HI stat from Miami. All very recent perhaps reflecting the increased moisture in the atmosphere of late. Don't know now anyone could tolerate FL in the Summer. Just not for me. High sun angle, high temperatures and stifling humidity

The mist and drizzle is just unrelenting! Just drove home from the lower Hudson Valley and was a nasty drive with mist and drizzle most of the way. Just annoying at this point.

Don- This is first time in recent memory that the temperature sensitivity analysis has been lowering as the month is progressing. Usually it rises as we work through the month. Interesting to see if we finish the month slightly below normal. My guess is not from NYC on west. Time will tell.

Two day event total was .58". Daytime temperatures yesterday never got out of the m/u 40's. Everything nice and green and rain is keeping the pollen at bay so there is that.
