  1. Just looking at various models, several show some similar views of a low pressure down south but they all seem to lose it versus the gfs. Time will tell. But all the ensembles including gefs say nothing to see here.... move on
  2. Sign me up! I need a new truck again. Bought my last one week or 2 before Sandy. Paid off the 5 year loan in 2 with 6 months of crazy over- time, 2-4 weeks of working 7 days a week, 12 hour days then 9 hours a day 6 days a week for months! Best silver lining to a bad situation.

INSTRUCTIONS: A Heat Advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time. Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk. Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures. Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning. Check on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! In cases of heat stroke call 9 1 1. 5. NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... -- Changed Discussion -- Will continue to monitor temps and dew points. Portions of interior eastern CT have registered dew points in the mid 70s. With cloud cover potentially staying back to the SW just long enough, resulting in full sun for most areas into at least the first half of the afternoon heat advisories may need to be hoisted for multiple days of 95+ heat indices (starting potentially w this afternoon). Will make this decision next update as it will be borderline for later today. Trimmed back POPs ever so slightly across eastern sections for the most part for later today. Still maintaining chance to slight chance POPs from west to east across large majority of the area for this afternoon and the early evening. Previous discussion follows.

  13. https://www.npr.org/2022/08/03/1115378385/tonga-volcano-stratosphere-water-warming Tonga's volcano sent tons of water into the stratosphere. That could warm the Earth Earlier large volcanic eruptions have affected climate, but they usually cool temperatures, because they send light-scattering aerosols into the stratosphere. Those aerosols act as a sort of massive layer of sunscreen. But since water vapor traps heat, the Tongan eruption could temporarily raise temperatures a bit, the researchers said. It normally takes around 2-3 years for sulfate aerosols from volcanoes to fall out of the stratosphere. But the water from the Jan. 15 eruption could take 5-10 years to fully dissipate.
  14. 85 for today's high. Not to shabby
  15. Suffolk Water Authority expands water emergency to 4 East End towns Suffolk County Water Authority officials have expanded water emergency conditions declared in Southampton Village to its customers in the entire town, along with Southold, East Hampton and Shelter Island. The declaration of a Stage 1 Water Emergency for those towns was made to ensure there is sufficient water for firefighting and other emergency purposes, Water Authority and municipal officials said at a Tuesday morning news conference. It comes just days after the state designated Long Island and more than 20 other counties to be on drought watch.
