  1. Flurries and sun around Columbia. 40°
  2. 15-min summer-style shower. — except it’s 40 degrees.
  3. Columbia, Md. -- east side -- bottomed out at 29.7 pre-dawn. Up to 33.1 at 9am.
  4. Columbia temps IMBY -- 51 at 3am (temp already was coming down from mid-50s after midnite) 37 at 6am 34 at 7am
  5. Happy First Day of Winter !!! (arrived 5:02am ET) 7:30am Monday -- Looks like clouds have lowered to the tree line, where fog can now be seen at tree-top level. But not freezing fog, altho temp has recently dipped just slightly to 34.7 from 35.1.
  6. No freezing fog in Columbia -- 35 with a high overcast at 6am Monday.
  7. It was an enjoyable 20 mins of parachutes IMBY. Temp up to 32.8, not snowing now.
  8. Mostly wet snow flakes, but some rain/sleet mixed at 8am on east side of Columbia. Temp 32.2.
  9. 20.5 this morning. Coldest morning so far. A thin snowpack didn’t hurt.
  10. Hi 33 low 27. A respectable early winter day.
  11. LWX Thursday evening AFD did mention a weak upper level disturbance moving thru but they thought it wouldn’t produce east of mountains, while mentioning possibility of an inch or 2 out west/mountains.
  12. 5:15am Friday: 28.3 and light snow on east side of Columbia. A light dusting, barely a car-topper.
  13. While we/Columbia seem to do OK compared to many here, living in Columbia creates it's own sort of snow neurosis: Too far south and east to benefit from the higher 400'-800' elevations and generally colder climo 30 miles to the N and W; too close to the Bay influences for situations like yesterday; and just barely west of the usual -- and seemingly very real - -"fault line and I-95" higher snow forecast cutoffs. OTOH, we do sometimes get the MoCo-HoCo deathbands. Plus, it's a nice place to raise kids!
  14. No big complaints from this storm as my bust was 2" and my boom was 5". Going with 3.3" based on last night's sleet and the 12:30am turn-back to snow/sleet. Sure, I would've liked more but will rationalize this for the better: can walk out my door and do whatever I need to do today, no big-time shoveling today in brutal windchills, will let sun do it's work melting sidewalks, etc.; plus, the ground is white, which is all I really wanted in the end, so am glad that the many hours of sleet and rain beat-down did not destroy the snowcover, which may stick around until the weekend warms things up again. Waiting to hear from my friends near Middletown, NY (in the Shawangunk Mountains chain, about 90 mins east of Scranton on I-84) to see how they fared after their local NWS forecast going in was 11"-19" with higher lollies. They always do well being just NE of Poconos but in lower NY State. One suggestion on future events -- posters could note their location instead of saying "here" or referencing their zipcode. On the phone, don't see posters' locations; altho I know many by heart, certainly don't recall them all. Nice pre-Xmas start! Also, coldest temp of the season this morning IMBY at 22.7.
  15. Went back to mod sleet during last 45 mins. Just slightly ironic that changeover occurred during my high temp 32.8. Altho have just dropped to 32.4 in last 15 mins.
  16. When you’re retired it’s happy hour all day❄️
  17. Looks like at 1pm there is a 29.77” low just barely offshore from Wilmington, NC.
  18. Temp has backed off from 30.6 to current 29.3 after morning low of 27.4. Guesstimating/eyeballing between 1/2” - 3/4”
  19. Unisys.com used to have a good 3-hr pressure change map. But no more .....
  20. fixed. 27.4 / 21 (that's what I get for typing in dark, wife asleep in next room)
