Tuesday morning snippet for extended forecast: EXPECT PRECIPITATION TO EXPAND IN COVERAGE OVER THE EASTERN HALF OF THE COUNTRY FROM SUNDAY ONWARD IN ASSOCIATION WITH ONE OR MORE SURFACE LOWS/FRONTAL SYSTEMS. IT IS TOO EARLY TO RESOLVE DETAILED EFFECTS FROM LOW PRESSURE THAT MAY BE NEAR THE EAST COAST BY NEXT TUESDAY BUT SIGNIFICANT RAIN/SNOW AND STRONG WINDS COULD BE POSSIBLE. AT THIS TIME THE RELATIVELY HIGHER POTENTIAL FOR MEANINGFUL SNOW EXTENDS FROM THE CENTRAL APPALACHIANS THROUGH INTERIOR NEW ENGLAND. THE BROAD CYCLONIC CIRCULATION AND COLD AIR MAY PRODUCE SOME LAKE EFFECT/ENHANCEMENT AS WELL. EASTERLY FLOW FROM LATE WEEK THROUGH THE WEEKEND MAY PROMOTE PERIODS OF RAIN OVER THE SOUTHERN/EASTERN PARTS OF THE FLORIDA PENINSULA. MUCH OF THE EASTERN U.S. WILL SEE BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY WITH SOME HIGHS 10F OR MORE BELOW NORMAL ON FRIDAY. ANOTHER SURGE OF CHILLY AIR WILL LIKELY BRING HIGHS OVER THE EAST BACK DOWN TO 5-15F BELOW NORMAL NEXT MONDAY-TUESDAY. ANOMALIES COULD TREND COLDER DEPENDING ON THE ULTIMATE DEPTH OF THE UPPER TROUGH CROSSING THE REGION.

After the past 3 mornings with a low of 34 IMBY on east side of Columbia, bottomed out at 31.9 Saturday morning -- so bring on Indian Summer!

Third straight morning low of 34° IMBY. Put to shame by BWI, which came in at 29°.

Low temps IMBY: 11/3/21 -- 34.4 (decent frost) 11/4/21 -- 34.7 (not much frost) Just can't seem to get down to 32 yet.

34 imby in Columbia and a decent amount of frost. Would not surprise me if most of HoCo reached 32 except maybe for those of us in SE part of county near I-95.

2.5" on east side of Columbia IMBY for the first part of this system. 4"+ for all of October here, even tho had only 0.23" for all Oct as of 10/24. So, basically 4" of rainfall from Oct 25-29.

Doubt it. Temps pretty steady at 50 in/around Columbia since late Tuesday evening until this morning.

1.3" overall on Monday evening. Thru Sunday, Oct 24 .... only had 0.21" for all of October. May make things respectable yet for Oct rainfall after upcoming late-week event.

Temp dropped a good 10° in last hour.

Some of the rain (light) has finally backed its way SW-ward down to Columbia at 2:20pm.

I came in at 0.41" IMBY for yesterday evening/night.

Have been in France for 3+ weeks. Started off warm with 80° in Northern France. Many rainy and cooler periods the rest of time but we lucked out during the day. Been a wet summer in France, we’re told. Nice fall preview, after initial “heat”. Got to 12,600 feet on Mont Blanc in French Alps. It is the highest point in Alps — and all of Europe. Had some snow grains falling for a while. Freezing temps. Winter preview!?

When did BWI become the new heat island?! They have consistently been warmer than both DC airports.

Highest temp for the year so far IMBY yesterday at 95.2. All 3 airports hit their 2021 high temps also.

The birds didn't come to the feeders much during Brood X. The birds are back big-time now and I am barely seeing any new cicadas on my walks in the woods. Not much to sweep up anymore on driveway (under a tree) or front porch, where I was seeing 20-40 new ones each morning after sweeping the evening before.

A great sky-show Monday evening as storms moved in. But only 0.37" IMBY, the majority of which fell in a 15-min period. 4.62" for the month so far, not too shabby! (and I'm convinced my rain gauge is low-balling)

You can smell them decaying. Rotten .... but not forgotten.

0.76" Monday night. One of best light shows of the year so far. Temp at 63 just before 6am.

The skies are electric. Silence of the Cicadas

Incoming Columbia! It was 84 before first waves of clouds and breezes moved in.

I’m convinced that stench of death is the dead cicadas. I smell that putrid smell everywhere when walking in the woods. It started shortly after the insect onslaught.
