  1. I heard a bit of thunder this afternoon imby. Nothing of substance, but most severe weather days fail to produce much in Allegheny County, and this was no exception.
  2. Instability was garbage here this morning. Sun came out and temp jumped from 78 to 83 in an hour. I’m no expert either, but I wonder if that plays a role.
  3. PBZ must have wanted all of our counties in it. You people stole Garrett Co. from us, lol.
  4. The ones moving into CTP now seem to really want to form a line. Still discrete cells out west.
  5. That is a massive area. 56 PA counties and parts of 6 other states.
  6. NAM wants to blast us into the upper 70s, but even so, none of it looks like nearly enough to derail a below average month. We still need to average roughly 84/63 the rest of the month to even have a chance. Today is the only day that will even be close.
  7. For the most part, I agree. Love thunderstorms but the weather feature I despise the most is humidity. So conflicted.
  8. If the 12z NAM is correct, Friday could be much like today. Why does this humid crap always win in May these days?
  9. That looks like it would be the latest 30s on record for MDT, by almost a week.
  10. It’s looking like it could be at least 2 degrees below average. I don’t think it’ll even be close. Edit: could be a little closer now that Friday looks warmer. Most models get us close to or above 70 with the nasty dewpoints in the mid 60s making a brief return.
  11. To be fair, that’s a sentiment shared by the vast majority of people outside the Beltway. Most of us just don’t voice it in front of 15,000 other people.
  12. 3-5 days out and models are still struggling badly to predict the evolution of this pattern Fri-Sun.
  13. Looks like 87 unless we somehow get past that late. Meaning that’s very likely our high for May.
  14. Given the significant overlap of Red Sox fans with fans of another professional sports franchise I hate with a passion, that timing seems about right.
  15. That POS doesn’t represent our city.
  16. Can fans who went 86 years between championships be defined as spoiled brats? A philosophical question.
  17. There are a ton of spoiled brat fairweather fans in Pittsburgh, probably more than in most cities. That’s the biggest issue with our fan base, IMO.
  18. Ironic given the number of overcast, crappy days we have to put up with.
  19. Oh right, I forgot about that very obvious reason one would travel to Pittsburgh.
  20. Or cough, or turn to my wife and say “good thing my covid symptoms are starting to go away and I can actually go places again.”
  21. Hence the reason I said 5 days a week. I think 2-3 would be just fine for most office jobs.
  22. It’s incredible how heavy and localized that rain was. As for today, so far this afternoon it’s been the old “temps stalled at KPIT” story. I do think we get to 87 or 88 (AGC already has), but I thought 90 was a possibility when it was 84 at noon.
  23. Way off topic, but Frontier Airlines keeps trying to advertise flights to me from Pittsburgh to the Twin Cities or Bismarck (via Denver) and even if I ignore the fact that Bismarck isn’t exactly a happening vacation spot, I’m wondering why in anyone’s right mind someone would fly PIT -> DEN -> either BIS or MSP.
  24. If this persists on the models, I’m in. Never been to ND, could add to the 37 states I’ve been to. That said, I’ve seen snow twice on Memorial Day weekend in back to back years without even trying (one was at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, the other was driving across I-70 in Colorado).
  25. Mask wearing in the Pittsburgh area still seems to be well over half at most non-food establishments. I still do in most cases, but have no issue with people who don’t. With that being said, here’s something I do have an issue with. The wife and I went to a business last night where we had to wait in line. The line was not very long, but the (maskless, but as I said above, irrelevant now that masks aren’t required anymore) couple behind us insisted on standing no more than 18” behind me. My opinion is that there’s no logical reason from now on to ever stand that close to someone while waiting in line in a place that isn’t packed, pandemic or not, and it’s courteous to maintain that distance because there’s no reason not to (and there are plenty of other respiratory and other types of illnesses that are airborne). But maybe I’m missing something? Maybe someone on here can enlighten me and give me an actual logical reason anyone needs to ever stand that close to someone while waiting in line when there’s plenty of room to be spaced farther away? I’m honestly asking. Edit: I understand people’s desire for things to go “back to normal.” But is it honestly at all logical to feel like things aren’t “back to normal” if you’re not up someone’s ass every time you wait in line somewhere? There are some aspects of the “old normal” that should never come back, in my opinion. This is one of them. Another is five days a week, butt in seat, at office jobs that can be done just as productively at home, but that’s another topic for another day.
